DIVORCES IN THE WORLD
While divorce is a painful subject for many people, it is like a day to day affair for some others. Divorces are quite frequent and too many in numbers in many countries. Whatever it may be, the prime reasons for divorce are only two. Lacking adequate knowledge of family life during childhood with parental protection that creates and strengthens to develop human relations and parents become models. The other is from the basic school education. A child's knowledge about human relations both theoretical as well as practical are achieved from schools through books and teachers. In many countries including India this teaching is lacking. Safety of women, make and female relations, need of marriage, divorce in different parts of the world etc should be included in the school syllabus. Religious teachings can also contribute significantly for the establishment and development of human relationships, especially family relations . Religious teachings especially in India is for a clean Divine image, not to have refined human character and behaviour.
According to UN Yearbook report global divorce rate in 2021 was 1.8 per 1000 population. In 2022 15% adults in USA believe that 'no fault' divorce is acceptable and such divorce should be permitted without asking for a serious reason for it. It cannot be treated as an ordinary human opinion. It is like buying home appliances, when a new model appears in the market buy it and throw away the old one. Maldives with 5.52 divorce per 1000 is the highest in the world. India has one of the lowest divorce rate in the world. It was 0.4% in 2019-20 and increased to 0.5% in 2023-24. Divorce rate increased worldwide in 1970s and decreased in the 21st century. Another significant thing to note is that marriage rate in many countries including US is going down. The rate which was 13 per thousand in 1930s came up to 16.4 in the 1960s. Since then it is again coming down.
