ROAD MAINTENANCE IN KERALA

At last the honorable High Court is constrained to interfere in the road repairs of Kerala. Print, visual and social media have been trying to highlight the seriousness of road conditions of the state for quite sometime. Unfortunately so far it could not reach the concerned. Road maintenance system itself need to be rewritten.

The contractor doing the construction of the road should give a guarantee for the repair of the damaged area immediately after it is found, for a minimum period of 36 months from the date of of completion of the construction. The Engineer in charge of the construction shall be made responsible for the maintenance too well in time. Any default from the part of the contractor/engineer should be viewed seriously. Penalty/suspension as deemed fit should be imposed/taken against those concerned.

The representatives of the people belonging to the region concerned (Panchayat, Municipality, Assembly or Parliament) should be equally responsible for getting the repair and maintenance work done well in time. The concerned Minister may review the matter periodically. All of them together may ensure that the people are not put into trouble under any circumstances. People and media together should not be asked to cry in public for road maintenance.
