FIND AN END TO THE PRESENT WAY OF PUBLIC PROTESTS IN KERALA

The right to freedom of speech and expression and the right to assemble peacefully without arms, as provided in article 19 (1)(a)(b) of the constitution of India make Indians eligible to protest against anything (as being experienced in different parts of the country from time to time) The total amount of destructions caused by protests in the modern India must be beyond estimation. The strike, hartal, bundh etc are not the choice of the people. The polititians of the country make the call and the people belonging to the respective parties obey them and cause the destruction.

The financial debacle of  Kerala State is the outcome of the protests and strikes made by the Trade Unions from the middle of the 20th century which consequently driven away hundreds of industries from the state. The GST, IT, Excise Duty etc would have contributed by these industries would not have allowed the financial situation of the state to reach this rock bottom stage. The state transport service, KSRTC is at the verge of closing down the operation. The Corporation is running in unbearable loss. The largest Trade Unions of the state are associated with the Corporation for the past many decades. They could so far do nothing to revive the Corporation. At the present system of governments, Trade Unions are not of any positive use for the industry or the employees. They only cause negative growth in economic development.

The continuous destructive protests in the state of Kerala has destroyed countless numbers of vehicles on the road, shops and government offices, educational institutions, industries and right upto the furniture of the legislative buildings. These do not belong to any political parties but to the people. Of late, under the instructions of the judiciary some recoveries of the loss is made/being made.

I wish to suggest to all concerned to think about democratically replacing the word protest with disagree. In case anyone disagree with any new orders or law by the government they should have special forum in every state for the redressal of their grievances /disagreement/objections. It should be a three tier arrangement. Every collectorate should have one such forum. There should be provision to appeal subsequently in regional and finally in the state forums. If dissatisfied there too further provision should be there to approach the high court. If this can be strictly implemented the existing forms of violent and destructive protests can be stopped. The state will become a peaceful place to live . This will also attract more tourists and entrepreneurs to the state. Every individual may consider this proposal and try to implement it.
