CRIME, CRIME EVERYWHERE! NOT ANY PEACE TO FIND!




According to National Crime Record Bureau report of 2021, Kochi ranked third in the country with 1,603.7 crimes per lakh population. The second position was held by Surat with 1,675 crimes per lakh and national capital New Delhi ranked the top with 1859 crimes. While it was Kerala ranked number one in the country with 1,477.2 per lakh, Nagaland was the lowest with 67.2 crimes per lakh population in the case of states.  As per Mathrubhumi news report there were 337 murders in 2021 in Kerala which is the highest number in the last 5 years. Another report by Mathrubhumi shows that there were 270 murders and 576 murder attempts upto October 2022.

As per a report by Nirmal Jovial in The Week updated on 17 May 2023, there were 27,545 drug related arrests in Kerala which is 29.4 % of the total cases registered in India. The narcotics availability and it's wide use in the state upto young school children is the prime cause of most of the crimes in Kerala. And may be that makes Kerala among the five states in crime against women in India.

If Kerala is continue to be a crime prone state tourists shall hesitate to come here. Safety of women should be assured in all respects, to encourage the tourists to visit this beautiful land. Similarly crimes under the name of protest is common here. This will also prevent the tourists entering into the God's Own Country. The government should take the lead with the association of all political parties in eradicating crime from Kerala.
