MULLAPERIYAR AND THE TAMIL NADU STAND

Other than the strength of an agreement made beforeb India coming into being, Tamil Nadu would not have even opined about a dam situated in the territory of Kerala. On the other hand, the people of Kerala would be willing to give as much water as possible to TN. Now, the entire people of Kerala would join to request to the people of Tamil Nadu to give the consent for decommissioning of Mullaperiyar Dam. An authentic study report about this dam by United Nations says that it has already outlived its life.

There is no meaning in shedding tears after something untoward happens. The extend of damage may be beyond prediction. It may even draw the attention of the whole world. Under this circumstances instead of taking any unbearable risk the Central Government may take the initiative to have a joint discussion between the State Governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu to reach an agreement to decommission of Mullaperiyar dam. The government of Kerala will certainly not deprive the people of Tamil Nadu for irrigation water. From alternative available source Kerala may provide water to TN till the new dam is completed.

All concerned authorities may, it is expected, to support this proposal.
