LAKHIMPUR KHERI, A LITMUS TEST FOR OUR DEMOCRACY

The aftermath of farmers protests at Lakhimpur Kheri, according to media reports, is killing of 10 people and injuring a good number. The number of accused in this violent and tragic incident may be many. Being the largest democratic nation in the world, we must conduct a systematic, truthful and time bound investigation, without prejudice, to find the culprits. Both central and state governments should ensure that police are not influenced from any corner in the investigation. The investigation report should be made public in the shortest possible time. Since people have faith left in the judiciary, it is believed that the judiciary will evaluate all aspects of the crime and punish all those who have committed the crime.

The people from all over the country shall be eagerly watching the police investigation and the subsequent trial in the court.
