CRIME AGAINST WOMEN
As per the peace and safety index of women in the world 2021-22, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland hold the top six positions in the world. India holds 148th position among 170 countries in the world. It must be shameful for every Indian. While evaluating the safety of women among Indian states Assam with 168.3 crimes per lakh women is the most unsafe state in the country. Kerala with 73.3 crimes per lakh women holds the 10th position.
India must be in the forefront of sexual violence, human trafficking and sexual discrimination. We all must come forward to ensure the safety of women in our country. The first thing what we must do is that safety of women in much details should be included in the school syllabus from Class 4 to Class 12. This will help to create a fundamental concept of safety and security of women in the society among children which may last till the end of life. All religious leaders should be advised to conduct at least two seminars per year for their respective followers in this subject. Next is that the law should be made stringent. No Avenue should be left open for any offender to escape. The minimum punishment for violence against women in any form should be 10 years imprisonment. Women should be encouraged to report the crime to the police. Any police officials taking a negligent attitude towards a reported case should be dealt with seriously.
The governments, irrespective of any political considerations should ensure safety and security for women in our beloved country and in each state. Simultaneously, our strong women's organisations across the country should also take up each and every matter pertaining to harrasment of women at appropriate level soon after it takes place.
