HIGH RATE OF CANCER IN KERALA

Kerala has the highest cancer incidence in India. While cancer incidence rate in India is 106.6 per lakh population, it is 135.3 per lakh  in Kerala. The highest death rate is in Mizoram followed by Kerala and Haryana. Death rate due to cancer in Kerala is 73.5 female per lakh, it is 103.4 male per lakh. In 2021 there are 21,224 active cases in Kerala. Cumulative recovery is ,51,68,028. In quarantine 1,19,025 and in home quarantine 1,15,182.

While tobacco is said to be the prime cause of cancer, alcohol use also have significant contribution. However exact data is not available about this dangerous disease caused by pesticides. Perilous application of pesticides on fruits and vegetables is also believed to be causing cancer heavily. People of two villages, Periya and Pullur in Kaseragod suffered heavily due to Endosulfan is still fresh in our minds.

Those who use these pesticides know very well how dangerous is the impact. Our state has a well equipped and staffed department to protect the people from these harmful vegetables and fruits. There is a ministry in the state to manage these things. Unfortunately none of them are bothered about the people who are eating these poisonous things. Good number of people are falling sick on account of consuming these.

Since human life is at risk and the right to live is being challenged by these people, who do anything for money,  committing the crime for the sake of money, it is prayed that the State Human Rights Commission may kindly take up this matter and save the people.
