GEOGRAPHICAL RECONSTITUTION WITHIN THE COUNTRY - MOST UNION TERRITORIES CAN BE MADE PART OF STATES
Part - II
Dadra and Nagar Haveli
The union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu are situated at the north west of India on the coast of Gujarat. Daman Daman and Diu were amalagamated into Dadra and Nagar Haveli and made one UT on 26 January 2020. The reason shown for the amalgamation was to bring down the cost of administration and to avoid duplication of service. As this UT is remaining as an enclave within the state of Gujarat now, the above shown reasons still hold good and need correction.
The area of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is 491 sq km. Total population is 3,43,709. 62% of them are tribals. Among the tribals Dhodias are the largest one. Leaving below 3% Christians remaining are Hindus. Languages spoken are Gujarati, Hindi and Dhodia.
There is no reason to keep this small enclave as a UT. This can be very well amalgamated with the state of Gujarat. By doing so the duplication of administration and the expenses thereby can be avoided. By associating with a developing state this enclave can also be developed in a faster pace.
The concerned administration may look into the matter and take necessary action at the earliest.
