GEOGRAPHICAL RECONSTITUTION WITHIN THE COUNTRY - MOST UNION TERRITORIES CAN BE MADE PART OF STATES
Part - I
We have passed over seven decades after independence. It is high time that we must consider for the geographical reconstitution of our country leaving childish sentiments. The present system of another state within a state should be scrapped forth with. We have now 28 states and 8 Union Territories. In order to augment the development, bring down the administrative costs and strengthen the security system, the Central Government may consider as early as possible to reconstitute the existing 8 Union Territories.
In this regard the following is proposed for the consideration of the government.
Puducherry
Puducherry is located in the south east coast of the country. Puducherry becomes widely known in the modern Indian history from the settlement of the French there in 1674. From the French possession this part of land came to the Union of India in 1954 and in 1962 became a Union Territory. Alongwith this the small pieces of land held by the French too became part of the UT. Those are Karaikal of Tamil Nadu, Yanam of Andhra Pradesh and Mahe of Kerala. Total area the UT is 483 sq km. Population 13,94,467. Language, Tamil (90%). Yanam in AP 30 sq km. Population 55,626. Language Telugu. Mahe, Kerala. Area 8.69 sq km. Population 42,816. Language, Malayalam.
In this case Government of India may take an early decison as suggested here. 1) Affiliate Yanam with Andhra Pradesh 2) Affiliate Mahe with Kerala 3) Affiliate Puducherry alongwith Karaikal with Tamil Nadu.
Lakshadweep, area 32.62 sq km. Population, 66,153. This island region in the west of Kerala in the Arabian sea may be affiliated with the state of Kerala. This arrangement will give an instant boost in tourism in Lakshadweep. It will also help to make significant developments in the field of education in the island region. More medium and small industries shall come up there. As a whole in a short span of time there can be considerable growth in the pci of Island people.
To be continued ......
