BAR, BAR, BARRING NO PLACE

Economic development of a state through expanding bar net work! I think it is the first time in the world, this super experiment!   IT field selected to increase alcoholic drinks consumption. Whether it is this party or that party the condition of the state of Kerala is pathetic. 70% of the state population is in 15-64 age group. While the All India unemployment rate declined from 5.8% in 2018-19 to 4.8% in 2019-20, it went up from 9% in 2018-19 to 2019-20 to 10% in Kerala. Yet, no result oriented efforts are made by the successive governments of Kerala to deploy the unemployed and raise the income of the  people and thereby raise the revenue of the state. Kerala is already imposing 237% tax on liquor and earning over 46,000 crores. Earning from liquor is squeezing the lower income category of the society. It would be better to avoid this.

While the current policy of the state seems to increase the turnover of IMFL, the government may be exploring more and more avenues for establishing bars. It would be preferable to reconsider this matter. Alcohol is injurious to health, says the government; still the government is trying to injure more and more people. What a contrast!
