PERFORMANCE OF GOVERNMENTS SHOULD BE ASCERTAINED BY PER CAPITA INCOME OF THE PEOPLE.

          (pci graph of India)

Let us find the countries with the highest pci. (2021)
Luxembourg - $125,923
Ireland - $90,478
Switzerland - $90,358
Norway - $76,408
USA - $66,144
Denmark - $63,045
Singapore - $62,113
Iceland - 58,371
Netherlands - $58,029
Sweden - $57,650

In simple words the standard of living of the people of these countries are very high.

On the reverse we shall find the countries with the lowest pci.

Burundi - $267
South Sudan - $323
Malawi - $397
Mozambique  - $431
Sierra Leone - $471
Congo DRC - $478
Afghanistan - $506
Zimbabwe - $516
Central Africa - $522
Madagascar - $554

Most of the people of these countries are spending most of their time to arrange food for the day; leave alone other amenities.

Now coming back to India, the pci of 2020 was $1927.71 (courtesy - data.worldbank.org). The state with highest pci in India is Goa with about $5450 (2020). This itself is far below among the advanced countries.

Though we all hear about the quantum leap of our country in the economic front, the stark reality can be detected if we remove just 1,000 richest people from 1.39 billion Indians and rearrange the pci. When we compare ourselves with the top 10 shown above we can find the real plight of most of the population. Though we have all the resources to reach the top level, no result oriented effort is found either from the government or from the people.

In order to find some improvement it is suggested that the Central and State governments while assuming charge and finishing the term should declare the existing pci and also along with the Annual Budget. This would help the people to assess the performance and progress made by each government and this will be the true scale of achievement of a government.
