SODOM AND GOMORRAH, SULPHUR AND DEAD SEA

               (Dead Sea today)
         (Lot's wife who became
                  pillar of salt)

" ... and
thereupon Lord rained down brimstone and fire out of heaven, the Lord's dwelling place and overthrew these cities, with all the plain about them, and all those who dwelt, and all that grew from their soil." (Genesis 19:24-25)

Sodom and Gomorrah were notoriously sinful cities. After giving the people enough opportunities to reform themselves God finally destroyed the cities with all the people and all other life forms. God rained down sulphur and fire from heaven to eradicate the entire people as punishment for their sins.

The people of today's world might take the raining down sulphur and fire as hypothetical and unreal. It is proved here that a divine action cannot become hypothetical, it will always remain realistic only. Sodom Gomorrah of the Old Testament was situated at  the middle of today's Dead Sea which spreads between Israel and Jordan. It is called Dead Sea because there is no fish or any other life forms in it. It's surface and shores are 430 metres below sea level, lowest elevation on earth. This sea has length of 50 km and area of 605 km². It is 10 times saltier than the ocean. 37 billion tonnes of salt is estimated in the Dead Sea.

There are good number of sulphur based industries in Jordan. They export huge quantity of sulfur to many countries. One industry alone have an annual mining of 60,000 MT sulfur. Can we not believe that the sulphur and fire rained down over Sodom and Gomorrah was a true destruction. And the place still remain without any life forms. And the sulphur is available in large quantity.
