AMAZING PRESENCE OF MIND

This is about real life story of a 10 years old girl studying in class 3 in a Mumbai school. She saved 17 lives from fire in Crystal Towers at Central Mumbai.

Zen Sadavarte was sleeping when her mother spotted smoke in the flat they were living.  They were in the 12th floor of the 16 storeyed building. The fire had started in her floor. Zen immediately showed presence of mind and applied safety tips taught in her school. After spotting fire everyone rushed out for safety. On hearing her mother cry Zen quickly took pieces of clothes from her house, wet them and asked her family members and neighbours to cover their noses with them and breathe through that wet cloth pieces.

"I tore a cloth into the size of handkerchief and added water into it. So when you breathe through it you get purified air in place of carbon. They all put it on their mouth and nose and breathed normally." Zen said.

Fire officers who doused the fire after two hours, praised the presence of mind of the little girl. It is one of the first things anyone in a fire is supposed to do, it is remarkable indeed that a 10 years old girl remembered this fact and urged the 17 people around her to follow it, which kept them safe till they were rescued, the fire officers added.

Over 100 residents were in the building. One old woman of the other floor died and sixteen people were admitted to hospital due to suffocation. The little girl, however,  with the knowledge she acquired from her school could save 17 people around her.
