PUNISHMENT FOR RAPE IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES


In India after the Anti Rape Bill of April 2013, culprits are liable to life imprisonment (14 years) or imprisonment for entire life and even death sentence in rarest of rare cases. The amendment also included many other kinds of sexual assaults that amount to rape.

France
15 years, which can be extended upto 30 years depending upon the brutality involved, and also life imprisonment.

China 
Death sentence and in some cases castration. Due to swift trial and judgements innocents are punished upto execution in many cases. There are reports about cases due to improper trial and judgements many innocents were put to death.

Saudi Arabia
Punishment for rape in Saudi Arabia is public beheading after administering sedative.

North Korea
The dictatorship of the country award death by firing squad. They use this as a cover to execute dissidents.

Afghanistan
Within four days from the judgement the culprits are shot on the head or hanged to death.

Egypt
Awards death by hanging.

Iran
Death by hanging or by stoning.

Israel
All forms of sexual assaults are taken as rape and sentence to imprisonment for 16 years.

USA
Depending upon the trial falls under state or federal law, the punishment can range from a few years to imprisonment for the entirety of the life span of the rapist.

Russia
As per the situation warrants due to other factors the punishment of imprisonment is ranged from 3 to 20 years.

Norway
Norway is the most stringent country for rapist. Any kind of sexual behaviour falls here under the category of rape. The punishment ranges between 4 to  15 years imprisonment depending on how heinous the crime was. The prisons in Norway is one of the best in the world.

From the above one can have a broad idea about punishment for rape in different countries around the world. Despite awarding stringent punishment the crime still flourishing all over. Would it not be ideal to include this subject from various angles and density in the syllabus from junior classes to pre-degree classes? Let us make an attempt and observe the results.
