Brunei is a tiny South East Asian country with an area of 5,765 km2
which is less than the combined area of two districts of Kerala, i.e.
Ernakulam and Thrissur. Population of Brunei is 4.33 lakhs (2019) whereas the population of Kerala 3.48 crores. The per capita income is GDP/PPP $61,816 (2020) though much of the population is living in povertyl. (The per capita GDP/PPP of 2019 of USA - $65,297.52, Canada - $46,194.73, UK - $42,330.12 and India - $2,099.60). Literacy rate 92.7% (2011). Religions Islam 67%, Buddhist 13%, Christian 10% and other 10%. Brunei is a petroleum rich country with an average of 2,00, 000 barrels production per day.
Military expenditure of Brunei is only 2.37% of GDP (2018). Voluntary military service for 17 years and above. The country has 13 police stations with a strength of 4,400 force. Brunei awards death penalty by stoning for adultery, sodomy, rape and homosexuality. Another significant thing is, Brunei does not levy any income tax on individuals and no sales tax or value added tax for any goods. As per the National Housing Scheme of Brunei, homes are provided to the citizens of Brunei regardless of ethenic or racial background.
The Sultan of Brunei rules the country. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is one of the richest in the world. As per an assessment in 2019 his assets are increased by $147 every second. The Sultan is on Brunei's thron for 52 years, the second longest reigning monarch behind Elizabeth II. The Sultan lives in the largest royal residence in the world with a sprawling 1800 room palace worth $1.8 billion on the bank of Brunei River. The Sultan has five sons and seven daughters from his three wives. His luxury car collection is worth over $9 billion. The total number of cars in his garage count to an amazing 7,000 nos. He has 200 polo horses, 45 sea game horses among hundreds of other horses.
He has a fleet of private planes including $138 million Airbus, $251 million Boeing 767 and a customised Boeing 747 worth $431 billions decorated with gold. When he wants a hair cut he flies in his favourite stylist by private jet.
His badminton coach earns a $2 million wage. He spends an equal amount for his acupuncture and massage. His birth day was celebrated in 1996 for two weeks with an awesome spending of over $38 million including a show by Michael Jackson.
