PRESERVED BODY OF VLADIMIR LENIN

(Embalmed remains of Lenin on         display in Lenin's Mausoleum, Red                        Square, Moscow)

Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov Lenin was the father of the Russian revolution. He was the first leader of USSR. Leaving aside the political stories we may look into the post life body of the former supremo of Soviet Union. Unlike the normal burial, the body was artificially preserved and made a life-like hybrid monument. Russians have applied fine-tuning preservation techniques that have maintained the look, feel and flexibility of Lenin's body. Lenin when died in January 1924, the Soviet leaders did not want to preserve the body for a long period. Actually Lenin wanted to bury his body by the side of his parents burial place. People envisioned the burial in a closed tomb on the Red Square of Moscow. However the cold winter kept the  corpse in a good condition for about two months as people were continuously pouring over the place. This gave the idea of preserving the body for a longer time. Eventually the lab researchers developed a microinjection technique using a single needle to reach the embalming fluid to certain parts of the body. In 1945 they resculpted the nose, face and other parts of the body. Between 1950 and 1980 over 200 people worked for various research and at last with the help of indigenous and imported techniques blood flow is said to have provided in the body. Russia spends about $2,00,000 in a year, during the recent years, to maintain the body.

The death of Lenin at the age of 53 is still a mystery. There are wide difference of opinion among the experts about the cause of death. A doctor said stress, family medical history or possibly even poison led to the death. Dr Harry Vinters and historian Lev Lurie of the University of Maryland School of Medicine that studied the death of famous people like Simon Bolivar, Christopher Columbus, Abraham Lincoln etc gone through the medical records of Lenin. According to the reports Lenin had several strokes before the death, but what caused them is not clear. He had no risk factors like b.p, diabetes, over weight or such things. As per family history Lenin was treated for syphilis using the primitive medicines available at that time.
