HUMAN BODY THAT REFUSED TO DECOMPOSE

(Preserved body of Saint Catherine                               Laboure)

Saint Catherine Laboure is the one who reported her first visitation by an apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1830 in France. She said she had placed her hands on the lap of the Mother and she spoke to her in an empty chapel. Saint Catherine died in 1876 and her body was buried. The body was exhumed in 1933 as part of her official beatification. It was then found that the body was in perfect state of preservation and the joints were still supple. The body can be found now in Paris as Catherine was alive. However the praying hands are fake. The real hands were severed and kept seperately, in memory of the lap they supposedly rested on.
      (Preserved body of La Doncella)

La Doncella died about five hundred years ago in the mountain sides in Argentina. A sharp blow to her head is believed to have killed her. She was left seated with her clothes and ceremonial objects as a religious sacrifice. The low temperature and low oxygen in the air of Andes must have preserved the body for centuries. The body was discovered in 1999. No one knows her name, but a nickname was given to her - "La Doncella", which means "The Maiden."
