DEMOCRACY A COMEDY OF ERRORS

Since long we Indians have been talking about corruption in various fields. We elect and post our representatives at various places. We have given them freedom to decide their remuneration. No restriction at all. On completion of their terms at their own will they can draw any amount of money in the name of pension. After showing such magnanimity by us, whenever we approach them for our legitimate needs they, at least some of them, ask us to pay under hand either directly or indirectly. We may call this system, suppression of democracy. We shout at high pitch that the whole system belong to us. We are the masters. The elected ones are our servants. We are happy. They are making us happier.

The whole world is baffled when we say we are the largest democracy in the world. If that is so Abraham Lincoln must be wrong to define the democracy. It need to be redefined as - government of the political parties, by the political parties and for the political parties. A common man of Indian origin may say, democracy is the easiest way of fooling about 1400 million people by a few hundred people. India's richest 1% hold more than four times the wealth held by 953 million people who make up for the bottom 70%. The total wealth of all billionaires is more than full year budget of the country. Where is the equality in democracy?

Over a century ago Karl Marx has brought up a new formula called communism to rectify the existing system. Since that contained more errors, the world has rejected it outright. Few countries have tried and tested the new system before rejecting. Now the whole world have rejected it. Except in the tiny state of Kerala nowhere in India or in the world the Marxists theory could survive.

The so called democratic voters are looking at each other helplessly to rectify the system. Everything is written in the grand book of law except the way to change the system. So, change is not possible. Accept it and live with it.

On the other hand, if we want a change, we need not wait for anyone to come and help us. We should help ourselves. If we do nothing, politics will swallow us anytime. First thing to do is to get away from excessive attachment with politics. Second is to do whatever possible within the frame work of law against corruption. Third is, do not allow religions to interfere in the day to governance. If these three are well handled we can take this great country to new heights.
