RAPE AND DEATH OF DALIT GIRL AND ALLEGED THREAT TO THE FAMILY BY DM



We Indians should be ashamed to call ourselves as the citizens of the largest democracy in the world. A 19 years old poor Dalit girl was gang raped, cut out her tongue, pulled out her eyes and she died in the hospital a few days back. As per the news appeared in the Times of India dated  2nd October 2020, the District Magistrate visited her house in Hathras, UP and threatened her family members. The administration by this act wants that the members of the family of the bereaved should change their complaint of rape and other heinous crimes. The office of DM supposed to ensure law and order in its administrative region coming out in open to support the criminals. Law and order situation of a state cannot fall below this level!

Since the poor and Dalits lost their confidence in the civil administration it is now the judiciary to rise to the occasion and establish justice. Judiciary may, therefore order for a high level enquiry in the matter and prohibit all influences by the criminals.

Indian Express in its editorial on 3rd October writes: "The crime in Hathras was heinous. But what was followed in its wake, the hurried cremation by the police in the dark, the deniel of the family's right to perform the last rites, followed by boorish police action to prevent anyone, including ... reaching the young woman's family, has added up to a sordid spectacle that should deeply embarrass the Yogi Adityanath regime in UP."
