(Report by Times of India dt 26.10.20)

Continued from yesterday.

We have made enough laws to prevent this most inhuman act. Media reported a case from Uttar Pradesh in the recent past that a young a girl was raped by a group of people and after that pulled out both her eyes and cut off her tongue. Can men become so cruel to fellow beings? The existing law stipulates life imprisonment or even death penalty for rapists, but the crime continue all over the country. There are differences in opinions of punishment for rape. While some suggest death penalty others are against. Let us now find how other countries are handling rape cases.

China award execution or castration for rape but without proper trial. There are cases of convicted rapists were executed and later found innocent. The punishment in Saudi Arabia is public beheading after administering a sedative. North Korea sentences death by firing squad for rapists. In Egypt it is death by hanging. In Israel it is 16 years to life. In USA as per the federal law the punishment can range from a few years to imprisonment for the entirety of the rapist's life span. Russia awards punishment from 3 to 6 years to 10 to 20 years depending upon all other aspects of the case. Any kind of sexual behaviour without consent falls under the category of rape in Norway and the punishment range from 4 to 15 years.
