PUNISHMENT FOR RAPE

(Report by Times of India dt 24 Oct 2020)

Rape must be one of the most heinous crimes human can do against another human being. The recent happenings in the country ratify this. There is no dearth for rape cases in India. According to a report by Reuters, more than 32,500 cases of rape were registered with the police in 2017 which makes about 90 cases a day in India. Our courts disposed of only about 18,300 cases related to rape that year, leaving more than 1,27,800 cases pending at the end of 2017. The 'Crimes of India -2019' report shows that crimes against women have gone up by 7.3 per cent last year. The country had recorded 3,78,236 cases of crimes against women in 2018. The NCRB data for 2019 showed that the majority of cases were registered under 'cruelty by husband or his relatives' (30.9%), assualt on women with intention to outrage her modesty' (21.8%) and 'kidnapping and abduction of women' (17.9%)

Some most horrific cases reported by media during early half of 2019 are:
