CONTINUOUS SUICIDES IN IITs

An average of five suicide deaths are reported from eight IITs of India every year. 52 deaths are reported during the past ten years from eight IITs all over India. According to media reports, four suicides have already taken place in Chennai IIT alone this year. The last case reported is that of a brilliant student from Kerala. As the father of the deceased could bring up the matter to the public attention, it has been echoed here and there including the Indian parliament. When such huge number of suicides are reported from one of the premier educational institutions of India, it is a matter of deep regret to say that neither any of the state governments concerned nor the central government came up to probe the matter effectively and find the exact cause of the deaths. At the initial stage itself the department of education, government of India should have enquired the cases and took stern measures to prevent the recurrence. The don't care attitude of a large number of officials brought the situation so alarmingly today.

All so called experts of educational departments of states and central governments, medical professionals, sociologists, writers and media should come to the forefront to understand the exact cause of such amount of suicides and take effective measures to prevent such cases in the future.
