After extensive research, Dutch designer Nienke Hoogliet developed Sea Me, a collection of modern and sustainable furniture from sea weeds. In South Korea there are many products brought out from sea weeds. There are production units engaged in the manufacture of furniture in South Korea. They also use sea weeds for food supplements, health products, cosmetics etc

Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute has cultivated about 34,000 MT sea weeds in the coastal areas of India in 2021. It is said to have a price over Rs 950/- per kg (to be got verified). Now we may get into the water hyacinth called African Payal in Malayalam. The scientific name of this is Eichhornia Crassipes or Salvinia Auriculate.  These weeds are thickly spread over the entire backwaters of Kerala. These are said to be used for baskets, curtains, furniture etc.

Qualified youth of the state may try to find various applications and viability of it for suitable products like furniture, cosmetics, health products etc. Since the raw material is available in abundant quantity free of any price, they can look into major projects utilising these weeds as the raw materials. Depending upon the project report, there may be investors interested to participate in the business.
