UPLIFTMENT OF THE PEOPLE OF ATTAPPADI

   (Panoramic views of Attappadi)

According to a report by Times of India dated 24th July 2015, the state and central Governments had spent Rs 1347 crores during the preceding five years for tribal development of Attappadi region. TOI had reported to have received this information from a RTI activist of Trissur district. While going in detail of the fund allocation, the highest allocation was on education sector, i.e Rs 254 crores. And the outcome of the expenditure was surprisingly low. Only 40% of the tribal students reached SSLC level, 20% of them could only found in plus 2 level and a mere 1.3% could reach degree level. When someone is spending money on something, they should also ensure the output of the expenditure.  Similar must be the result of spending in each sector.  Considerable amount of money has been spent in the name of Attappadi since 2015 too.

As per s report of March 2018, the tribal population of Attappadi of that time was 32956 which was 44% of the total population then. Prime earning of the tribal community is agriculture. In a simple arithmetic calculation, when 1347 crores shared by 32,956 people, per capita expenditure comes to Rs 4,08,727/-. Every spending in Attappadi region for the tribel welfare do not bring the expected return.

If someone should study about the money spent for the people of Attappadi during the past one decade more interesting and surprising information could be had. There are three rivers flowing through this region. All of those are lean and dry during summer. Where the people will go for water for irrigation of their meagre agricultural work. Neither the central or state government could ensure a fair income for these small population, by drawing so many projects since 1962 until now.

It is prayed to all governments and individual authorities to please do something for the physical upliftment of the poor human beings of Attappadi.
