LARGEST WEDDING RECEPTION - HOLDS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD

Image
This  amazing wedding reception was not held in any richest countries but in our own India on 7th September 1995. It was hosted by the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Smt Jayalalithaa Jayaram at her foster son's wedding in a 50 acre ground in Chennai. The wedding is reported to have cost over 75 crores rupees. The dinning area alone costed an estimated 1.5 crores rupees and the menu an estimated Rs 2 crores and was attended by over 1,50,000 guests. The 5 km drive from the temple to the grounds was strewn with rose petals and lined with 600 Grecian columns strung with coloured lights along with giant papier mache models of ancient Indian princes in erotic poses. MAN AND GOD

Image
God  is in the minds of man since time immemorial. Man has never seen God. According to human belief God is within man. But man can neither see nor hear Him. The shape, size, power, ability and efficiency of God is man's own creation. There are over 30,000 active religions in the world.  Most of these religions have their own God. Over 80% of the population of the world are affiliated to some religions. From the remaining 20%, over 50 crores are atheists and the rest do not have any attachment with any religion. In Hinduism, there are 33 crores deities. According to some Hindu scholars there are 33 types of deities too. Most of the other religions teaches a one God principle. When there is a creation, there is a creator, is the simple principle behind this concept of God. Those who had taken birth in this world as human beings are considered as have come from the God.  This too is a common perception. However almost all religions are uniform in fundamental concepts. MULLAPERIYAR AND THE TAMIL NADU STAND

Image
Other  than the strength of an agreement made beforeb India coming into being, Tamil Nadu would not have even opined about a dam situated in the territory of Kerala. On the other hand, the people of Kerala would be willing to give as much water as possible to TN. Now, the entire people of Kerala would join to request to the people of Tamil Nadu to give the consent for decommissioning of Mullaperiyar Dam. An authentic study report about this dam by United Nations says that it has already outlived its life. There is no meaning in shedding tears after something untoward happens. The extend of damage may be beyond prediction. It may even draw the attention of the whole world. Under this circumstances instead of taking any unbearable risk the Central Government may take the initiative to have a joint discussion between the State Governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu to reach an agreement to decommission of Mullaperiyar dam. The government of Kerala will certainly not deprive the

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SYRO MALABAR CHURCH?

Image
(The Times of India dt today) Catholic  community in Kerala has become like a political organisation on one side and a corporate entity on the other side. The priests of Ernakulam - Angamaly archdiocese gathered at Kaloor Renewal Centre reported to have not accepted the decision taken by the recent Synod. The hierarchy of the Church appears to have divided into three segments; the Bishops and above, the priests and of course, then comes the believers or the common man. How to conduct the Holy Mass is the prime issue. Whether it is to be performed by facing the altar or by facing the people. The Holy Mass is believed to have instituted by Jesus Christ during the last supper on the Holy Thursday. However, Christianity got a legal status as a religion from the Roman Empire was in the fourth century. Prior to that the faithful were assembled in some bigger houses and conducted some forms of worships. They were sharing the meals in memory of the Last Supper. These forms of

MULLAPERIYAR, NEEDS COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION

Image
The  Apex Court has asked the Dam panel to inform regarding the water level by tomorrow. The Chief Minister of Kerala has assured the people that Mullaperiyar dam's safety situation is not alarming. However the people living in the downstream region of Idukki dam upto Ernakulam district could not come out of the apprehension created by reputed national and international agencies about the safety of the dam. As such, it is suggested that the government may appoint a) indigenously competent authority b) internationally reputed agency, to examine the strength and all relevant facts about the dam. Both the agencies may be allowed to interact and examine simultaneously and submit individual reports. During the examination, the presence of   competent seismic experts may be ensured so that inspection team can have consultation as and when required. It would be preferable to have the presence of representatives from central government, TN government and the Supreme Court durin

RAPE, RAPE, RAPE EVERYWHERE

Image
Newspapers in Kerala are filled with rape cases all over the state almost every day. As per the NCRB reports during the first five months upto May 2021 there are 627 child rape cases were registered in Kerala. When there were 958 cases reported in 2016, it went upto 1313 in 2019 and 1143 in 2020. There were 1639 cases of cognizable offences against children registered in the first five months of 2021 that included 16 murders and 89 cases of kidnapping. According to a survey conducted by Social Justice Department in 2019 there are 11,72,433 families in the state where children are vulnerable for various abuses. Now what is the end of this heinous crime? How can we give peace, security and happiness our own children? Every human being of the state should seriously think on this matter. All the learnt people including the medical community may sit together and find ways and means to eradicate this social menace from the so called literate state. This writer has his humble sugg

MULLAPERIYAR - THE SWORD OF DAMOCLES

Image
'A report by United Nations University, the academic and research arm of the UN, has stated that Mullaperiyar dam, situated in a seismically active area, faces the risk of failure.' This is news report appeared in The Times of India, today. Almost all Malayalam dailies have reported this today. This threat is being highlighted by the entire people of Kerala for years, especially thousands of people living in this dangerous area. If anything adverse happen to Mullaperiyar dam the damage would be beyond imagination. According to a study conducted by IIT, Roorkee, if the dam breaks at 136 metre water level, the structure will give way within 12 minutes. The unimaginable rush of water will reach Idukki dam, 36 km away and rise the level by 20.85 metres. When such amount of water reach at Idukki dam in such force whether the dam will withstand the impact is beyond prediction. If any untoward things happen, the population affected will not be in thousands but in lakhs. Wh

AIR CLEANING PLANTS

(Air purification plant in                   Chandigarh) Recently  the tallest air purification  plant in the country was erected in Chandigarh. This plant has a capacity to purify air within a diameter of one kilometre. Polluted air enter the inner casing of the mist chamber wherein a number of mist nozzles spray water in the form of mist on the polluted air. Heavily polluted air particles are drained into drain tube, which collect in a water tank. Fitted with a system to suck polluted air through inlets, particulate matter 2.5 and 10, alongwith various oxides of sulphur and nitrogen, are filtered by the purifier and the purified air exhausted into the environment. The purifier has been installed by Pious Air Pvt Ltd, without any cost to the UT administration. The private company will operate and maintain it free of any cost. DOES GADGIL REPORT SUGGEST TO DO AWAY WITH DAMS ON WESTERN GHAT INCLUDING IDUKKI AND MULLAPERIYAR

Image
Western Ghats are the home of the rare and large biodiversity spanning over six Indian states. Madhav Gadgil was appointed as chairman of Environmental Research Commission by Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. The commission submitted it's report to the government on 31 August 2011. Western Ghats make home for many endangered plants and animals. These long ghats host India's richest wilderness in 13 national parks and several sanctuaries. Recognised by UNESCO as one of the world's eight most important biodiversity hotspots, these forested hills are also sourcing to numerous rivers, including the Godaveri, Krishna and Cauvery. Prime recommendations by the commission. The entire ghat range is designated ecologically sensitive area. All developmental activities like mining, thermal power plants etc are restricted in this area. No new dams should be permitted in the ecologically sensitive zones. Gadgil Commission report has, however, attracted

SRI LANKAN ECONOMY IN COLLAPSE

Image
(Polonnuruva Temple, Landmark    of Sri Lanka) Economic emergency is prevailing in Sri Lanka. Most of the food articles required by the country are being imported. The foreign exchange reserve available with the country is hardly enough for two months import. Over and above this, the country has huge liability of external debt. The Sri Lankan government has already taken various corrective measures to overcome the situation. Import of many items have been stopped forthwith. Money circulation has been brought down and interest rate has been enhanced. Import of chemical fertilizers have already been stopped and being replaced with local made bio fertilizer. This has considerably brought down the agricultural output of the country thereby prompting more imports of food articles. Despite all these preventive measures, the economy continues to be in shambles. After leasing out the Humbanthotta port to China for huge sum, Sri Lanka continue to shoulder unbearable economic burde

THE GOSPEL OF JUDAS

Image
(The Papyrus document)         ( El Minya cave, Egypt, from            where the document was found) Judas  Iscariot, the name itself of one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ has become the synonym for traitor. Judas had listened to the holy words direct from the Lord. He could witness to many of the miracles of Jesus. He was so fortunate to have the divine love from his own Master. But none of these could turn him away from his greed for money. Finally he was succumbed to thirty silver coins which he priced for his rabbi and consequently that turned to be the price of his own life. This is what we think about Judas.  However, the gospel of Judas, now found, suggest to rewrite our concepts. In 1970 a leather bound papyrus document was found from a cave in El Minya, Egypt. The last line of the gospel is, 'The Gospel of Judas.'  The codex is believed to have been translated from ancient Greek to Coptic language in 300 AD. Contrary to what w

TRACK CONGESTION IN ERNAKULAM SOUTH RAILWAY STATION.

Image
Media  reports quite frequently about the track congestion in Ernakulam South Railway station. Within the available space railway is doing fairly well to accommodate all those trains reach there. 59 trains are terminating at this station and 56 are passing through this station. The number of platforms available cannot accommodate all these trains. There is also no land available to add more platforms here.  The track area available cannot accommodate all terminating trains.  When similar situation was faced by Thiruvananthapuram station, railway could open the new Kochu Veli station with larger area. Such option is not available in Ernakulam now. However, railway can consider Tripunithura for this purpose. Tripunithura station can be developed suitably. A good number of platforms can be added at the existing station. Fairly good area is available at the south side of the Tripunithura station which can be developed as open yard to accommodate trains terminating there. As suc

PARAUNIVERSE

Image
The Heart of our Home (Telescopic images of our galaxy taken by Hubble, Spitzer and Chandra Space Telescopes in 2009 and stitched together) Parauniverse  is an alternate universe or alternate reality, a hypothetical self-contained plane of existence, co-existing with one's own. Science say parauniverse is a set of multiple universe. It is also said to be an interpretation of quantum physics. In philosophy it is a logical possibility, a possible world as real as ours. While some scientists believe that there is just another universe like ours, some others believe the possibility of infinite number of universes, which they call parallel universes. Those can be branches of ours or we can be a branch of another. Eminent scientists like Martin Rees, Alan Guth and Max Tegmark have taken it to be evidence that we live in a multi universe, that our universe is just one of a huge, perhaps infinite, ensemble of worlds. In our day to day life we realise that we live in a th

WHAT MAY BE THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE OF AFGHANISTAN

Image
There  are many forecasts about what would be the future of Afghanistan. At present some players are actively involved in the Afghan game and some others are watching from a safe distance. China and Pakistan are the two countries directly involved in the Afghan affairs. India, US, Russia, Turkey and Iran are closely watching developments there. China may be playing only a diplomatic game as they cannot afford to play with money. Chinese economy is reported to be not in a good shape. A good number of major companies are on the verge of pulling down the shutters. If the reports are correct some banks too may bring down operations soon. Pakistan is only interested to muster the terrorist power in Kashmir against India. India can counter it very well. It would be better for India to wait until things surface with more clarity. JAILS SHOULD ACT AS REFORMATION CENTRES

Image
Recently  there was a report in the newspaper that a person was released from the Central Jail on completion of his conviction period. He was sentenced to imprisonment for lifting a two wheeler. While returning home from the jail, he lifted a two wheeler again and was arrested by the police. Such things are happening quite frequently. It shows that the punishment given could do nothing to reform the convicts. In fact an ordinary criminal is shaped into a harder criminal in our jails by the co-prisoners. If the system is to continue like this, there is no meaning in providing free shelters and food for the criminals. When the people as a whole are bearing this cost they expect that these convicted shall return to the society as harmless ones. It is requested, therefore, to the government to make arrangements for individual meetings of convicts with reputed people who are willing to advise them to move away from crimes. It should be conducted at least 3 days in week. Each con

FORGIVENESS OF SIN IN HINDUISM AND CHRISTIANITY

Image
Fundamentally forgiveness of sins, according to Bhagavad Gita and The Holy Bible, is granted by the incarnated God. Bhagavad Gita says: "yathaidhamsi samiddho 'gnir bhasma-sat kurute 'rjuna jnanagnih sarva-karmani bhasma-sat kurute tatha" (Bh Gita Ch 4 Ver 37) One other way to get rid of your sins is to take refuge in God through "Devotion". In Bhagavad Gita , God assure his disciple Arjuna in many ways and asks him to take refuge in Him and says that He shall emancipate him of sin in all ways, shall rescue him in his life always. Many times we think that we have done many sins in life and know God shall accept us, and God make very clear in Bhagavad Gita that once a person become devoted to Him, He does not considers that person a sinner, rather God consider that person to be a Saint as he has taken the right decision in his life to become devoted to God. According to the Vedas,  man has to suffer according to his deeds in continuous rebirths. U

COULD WE HAVE AVOIDED THE CURRENT COAL SCARCITY?

Image
India  is one among the countries where coal scarcity should not have happened as we have many coal mines here. When we go through the continuous reports by the media on this, it becomes clear that a system which was moving fairly smooth, has been tampered by unwantedly. Media reports shows that consultants were appointed to manage the coal distribution and other related aspects. The concerned technocrats and the bureaucrats have failed to manage the newly introduced consultancy service. Over and above, those concerned to rectify the system kept on informing there is no problem related to coal and power.  All said and done, there is no meaning in extending the discussion further across the country. The concerned ministry may do their best to reinstate the coal supply and power distribution at the earliest. K V George

FOOD SERVED IN JAILS IN INDIA

Image
(Tihar Jail, Delhi) As on December 31, 2019 there were 4,03,739 inmates in 1,350 Indian jails. Surprisingly,  according to population of all countries in the world in 2021, there are about 28 countries in the world which have population less than those in Indian jails.  Generally good   food is served in many jails in India. Some people are in the opinion that high quality food in the jails will not deter people from going to jails. Whatever it may be we should not classify the quality of food served in the jails. Now we will find the menu of some jails in India. Andhra Jail Break fast - Tamarind rice, every day, served at around 6.30 AM Lunch - Rice, watery sambar with no vegetables in it. A different type of curry every day . Served at around 11.30 AM Dinner - Freshly cooked rice with rasam. Leftover sambar from lunch. One egg for long-timers. WHAT IS SUCCESS

Image
Success is a relative term. Success has different levels for different people. It is the outcome of a set target. The target may be self marked or marked by someone else. The success of one can be failure for the other. While the success may produce joy for one, it may create sorrow for someone else. Success in a war is marking destruction all over and killing people as many of the opponents. Success of a doctor is saving as many people as possible. All are called success! Let us see how some successful people react on this. "It is not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change." Charles Darwin "A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new." Albert Einstein "Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose." Bill Gates "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." Mahatma Gandhi "Oppertunity is mi

EGO AND SELF CONFIDENCE

Image
According to Sigmund Freud,  Ego is our reaction to the external world and how we respond to our internal forces. In Bhagawad Gita Krishna says to Arjuna, "nirmano nirahamkarah sa santim adigacchhati," which means, "those without the sense of ownership and egoism attain peace." He referring to aham in an objective sense as egoism. The word " aham " appears in the Bhagavad Gita numerous times, mostly in a subject sense.  The Bible also says the same. "It is easier for a camel to  go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." (Mark 10:25) Here the rich is not one with money, gold, land and such wealth. The major constituent in a 'rich' is his self - the ego. Jesus says here that unless one surrender with all his wealth one cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. Self confidence and ego are two different concepts. Self confidence is the faith in one's own abilities and the belief in one

ENCROACHMENT OF ROADS

Image
What  have been ignored by the government and it's various departments since long is just called for by the Hon'ble High Court of Kerala. Thousands of flag posts are erected on the encroached roads of Kerala. One can also find unauthorised erection of statues, notice boards etc on our roads. Further to these, construction materials and waste dump etc can be found close to the roads. In many places electric posts can also be found close to the roads. All these encroachments and obstruction may be read with the following. Road accidents in Kerala 2020 Number of accidents - 27,877 Deaths                          -   2,979 Injured                           - 30,510 2021 (upto August) Number of accidents   - 20,912 Deaths                            -   2,190 Injured                             - 23,063 If these encroachments were removed well in time at least some of these accidents could have avoided. Now, since the court have made an urgent call, all concerned may take

WHAT IS SIXTH SENSE

Image
Sixth sense  is supposed intuitive faculty giving awareness not explicable in terms of normal perception. Another explanation: If you say that someone has a sixth sense, you mean that they seem to have a natural ability to know about things before other people, or to know things that other people do not know. In British English Sixth Sense means: Any supposed sense or means of perception, such as intuition or Clairvoyance, other than the five senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. It is said that within our bodies, a sixth sense, known as interoception (the senses of the internal state of the body) perceives the state of - and threats to - our internal organs. One easy way to test your interoception is to find a quiet room and try to sense your pulse (without touching an artery). Even babies can perform a version of this. Shown a TV show with a dancing cartoon characters, 5 month old can tell when the animations are moving in time with their own beating hearts -

FIND AN END TO HUMAN KILLINGS IN KASHMIR

Image
Killings  in Kashmir by Pak sponsored terrorists takes place almost every day. Whether it is Indian or Pakistani, killings of human beings on either side should not be happened. There is  not even single incident that Indian soldiers have entered Pak territory and killed anyone there, other than countering an attack or intrusion. On the other hand, government sponsored terrorists are intruding into our country on a daily basis and killing the villagers and soldiers without in provocation. This must be stopped forthwith. Discussing this matter with the Pak government or their authorised representatives are of no use as we have already had many discussions but with no avail. Government of India may take up this matter to UN as early as possible. We must prefer a claim of INR ten crores for every Indian killed, either a soldier or an ordinary person, within our territory by  Pak soldiers or by terrorists. Similarly every drone intruded into our aerial space should be claimed f

STRANGE VISIONS AT DYING MOMENTS

Image
If we   take up this matter, whether our dead ones come to us any time during our life, especially at the time of our death, scientifically the answer would be a big no. Because there is no scientific theory to substantiate this. In our day to day life many of us might have confronted with true stories of communication with spirit. The body and mind prepare themselves for death before it actually takes place. We will not have an urge for food or drink. This must be a  preparation to conserve as much energy as possible. Pain is another symptom when death nears. This is followed by shortness of breath. There are many stories about the spirits of the near and dear ones coming to the dying one at this moment. CEO of a Palliative care unit said once that he had studied dying moments of 63 people. 52 out of them had more dreams during the last days. It was not like the normal dreams. They were talking, smiling and laughing in faint voice as if they were together with their dear o

DEPLETION OF COAL AND OUTAGES OF POWER.

Image
(Open cast Coalmine) Despite the assurance by the Central Government that there is no any consequences by the reported coal shortage, media continue to report about imminent power outages. According to different media reports few thermal power units in Punjab and a Power plant owned by Tatas in Gujarat have been temporarily shut down. Media further reports that load shedding have been announced in Punjab for different durations and UP, Rajasthan and Haryana informed about possible power cuts. However Central Government have issued strict warning to power distribution companies that there should not be any power cut. Similar advise have been given to the Tatas too. A very recent report by India Today shows that 'three power stations shut in Punjab, four in Kerala and thirteen in Maharashtra, due to shortage of coal'. Union Power Minister has assured that coal supply will be maintained; the report further says. The reason for the depletion of coal stocks at th

Finally the government had to concede to the law. Had they done this a couple of days earlier the annoyances of the people as well as judiciary could have avoided. The people never asked to send the accused to the gallows. They only asked for a free trial of the accused in the court of law. All that he has to defend himself can be produced there. Whatever may have happened so far, the law abiding citizens of the country shall bow their heads for the vigilance shown by the Apex Court. If this good example is followed by all state and central governments in criminal offences with political involvement, the respect of the people to the government shall be multiplied. The media too need appreciation for their watchful presence throughout in the matter. K V George
