MEDICAL FIELD IN INDIA
In the case of doctors we have 1.23 doctors per 1000 population in India. Monaco (8.61), Greece (6.5), Belgium (6.5), Lithuania (6.1) and Portugal (5.9)
In the case of nurses WHO recomends 3 to 4 nurses per 1000 population. In India we have 1.7 to 2.2 nurses for this population. The highest number of nurses per capita as follows. Finland (19-22), Belgium i(20-22), Switzerland (19), Norway (18), Ice land (15).and Ireland (14)
Now coming to medicine, as per media reports, allopathic medicines are one of the most attractive sales commodity in the world. For these medicines it is said that the difference between the cost of production and the sales.price goes upto 1200%. India.and China have maximum number of medicine and the related equipments manufacturing units in the world. Germany is the largest exporter of medicine and pharmaceutical equipments in the world with annual export value of
$120 billion. They are followed by Switzerland $99 billion, USA $90 bn Ireland $71 bn Belgium $60 bn and Italy $56 bn. Annual export value of India during FY25 was $30.46 billion (Rs2,45,962 crores)
In India we also follow other medical treatments than Allopathy and Ayurveda. The prime categories of those are shown below. Those are Homeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa.
There are some negative aspects too in the medical field. An underground mafia is reported to have been working in the
supply of human organs. They find the needy and get the poor and ignorant people and are brought under surgery in connivance with some mercenary doctors and hospital management.
Let us also know the costliest allopathic medicine available for patients in India now. That is Zalgensma (Onasemnogene
abeparvovec) This is FDA approved gene
therapy medicine. This is used to treat Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) A single dose injection costing upwards of Rs16-Rs 17 crores.
Unfortunately with a good amount of positive sides in the medical field there are a good number of government hospitals in India where treatments are provided to patients lying on the veranda floors for want of adequate number of beds. Is it due to shortage of money?
