CRIME IN INDIA AND AROUND THE WORLD

According to reports of United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime of 2018, an index is given below. Countries with highest crime rate:
Crime committed per lakh of population.

Homicide
1. El Salvador 52.02
2. Virgin Islands 49.28
3. Jamaica 43.85

Rape
1. Botswana 92.93
2. Australia 91.92
3. Lesotho 82.68

Robbery
1. Costa Rica 1587.5
2. Argentina 922.6
3. Uruguay 866.8

In India, the states reporting the highest charge-sheeting rate under IPC crimes are:
1. Gujarat 97.1%
2. Kerala 94.9%
3. TN 91.7%

According to NCRB data for 2021 released recently Kochi was ranked third with 1603.7 crimes per lakh of population.

The spurt of crime in Kochi has significant link with widespread narcotics use in this commercial capital of the state. Unfortunately no result oriented steps have  been taken by the state government to eradicate this menace from the state. The authorities concerned could not reach the top of the net work to prevent the distribution en masse.

In order to make the state narcotics free the state government may take the help of the Educationalists, Sociologists, Medical Community, Legal Systems, Religious leaders etc Alongwith the Law and Order machinery. Further to this all about narcotics should be included in the school syllabus from class 4 to 12.
