RENOWNED WOMEN OF INDIA WHO FOUGHT FOR THE RIGHTS AND SAFETY OF WOMEN

"A political struggle that does not have women at the heart of it, above it, below it, and within it, not a struggle at all."  Arundhati Roy, Author.

In continuation to the earlier write ups on crime against women, the names of some unforgettable women of India who fought for the rights and safety of our women are given below.

Savitri Bai Phule, Matangini Hazra, Kanakalata Barua, Aruna Asaf Ali, Bhikaji Cama, Tara Rani Srivastava, Moolmati, Capt. Lakshmi Sahgal, Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, Kuttir Rani Chennamma, Sucheta Kriplani, Begum Royeka,  Sarojini Naidu, Umabai Kundapur, Uda Devi, Ammu Swaminathan, Jhalkari Bai, Rani Gaidinliu, Vandana Shiva, Indira Jaising, Vrinda Grover, Viji Penkoottu,
Kamala Bhasin, Medha Patkar, Manasi Pradhan, Soni Sori, Shabnam Hashmi,
Tiffany Brar, K Saraswati Amma, Anna Chandy, Lakshmi N Menon, Lalithambika Antharjanam, Parbati Ayyappan, Parvati Benminimangalam, Dakshayani Velayudhan, M Haleema Beevi .......... and the list is endless.

While some of them have left us some are living with us today. In order to attain the fruits of their struggle, the women of today must continue their struggle until the Indian women can travel anywhere in India any time safely. If the educated women of today do not carry forward the life of those great women  they would be doing injustice to millions of downtrodden women of India whose physical bodies do not belong to themselves.
