FACTS ABOUT CORONAVIRUS

Given below are the basic facts about coronavirus.

Symptoms
Fever, cough, sore throat headache to pneumonia and also difficulty in breathing.

Recovery time
Clinical recovery for mild cases is approximately two weeks and three to six weeks for severe cases.

Can the virus transmitted through food?
Contract through food is highly unlikely. Transmission through direct contact with respiratory droplets by coughs or sneezes.

Catch the virus from feces
The risk of catching the virus from feces of infected persons appears to be low. The virus may be present in the feces in some cases.

Alcohol drinking
Consumimg alcohol will not destroy the virus. Alcohol consumption is likely to increase the health risk. Alcohol act as a disinfectant on the skin but no such effect within the system when ingested.

Is smoking a risk factor?
Smoking is a risk factor in many respiratory infections. The disease can be more severe to smokers.

Transmission in hot or humid climates
From the evidence so far it can be transmitted in hot and humid weather. One cannot be protected by climate controlled measures. The best way is frequent washing of hands and avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.

Spread through sewage
No evidence that the virus spread through sewage systems with or without wastewater treatment.

When to seek medical attention
Older people and those with problems like blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes are more likely to affect serious illness. Those with fever, cough and difficulty in breathing should also seek medical attention.

Does drinking more water help to flush out the virus
There is no evidence that drinking more water flush out the virus. Stomach acids too do not kill the virus.

Safe distance from infected people
Two metres between two people would be safe. When someone speak, cough or sneeze they spray small liquid droplets from the mouth or nose which may contain virus.

How to avoid anxiety
Minimize watching, reading and listening to Covid 19 news. Seek information from trusted source. Take steps to protect oneself.
