ROAD QUALITY OF OUR COUNTRY
When we consider the infrastructure of a country, quality and extend of roads contribute significantly. In order to determine the quality of roads, roads of many countries are examined and Road Quality Index is awarded. Here we may go through the RQ index of countries with the best roads in the world as furnished by the World Population Review from the year 2019. The RQ Index as per the survey of World Economic Forum wef 2019 the top ten countries and their scores are given below.
Singapore - 6.45
Switzerland - 6.36
Netherlands - 6.18
Hong Kong - 6.06
Portugal - 6.05
Japan - 6.04
France - 5.96
Oman - 5.96
UAE - 5.92
Austria - 5.89
In the case of India World Economic Forum did not compile a Road Quality Index 2019. However WEF did compile a Road Infrastructure Index 2016- 2019 and according to that the score of India is 4.5. India ranked 54th in the WEF index of 2021. However by reconstituting the methodology the ranking was adjusted to 38th. If we get the opportunity to travel across the country we can have a practical assessment of the road conditions in different states. Kerala may be right example to explain how far a road can be worse.
There is no meaning in giving high pitched speeches to the people about the development of the country in various fields in state and central level unless we bring up the infrastructure in the international level and also include the people in every aspect of economic development.
