MEDIA MAY COME FORWARD TO REFINE OUR COUNTRY

Whichever party rules the country, all the negatives take place in the same order. The list of such negatives may be too long. Let us pick three negatives from that long list and find means to eradicate these at the earliest.

1. Monetory corruption
2. Crime against women
3. Illiteracy

Monetory corruption is rampant at all levels. Prime reasons for large amount of crime including violence and killings, floating of unaccounted money that weakens the economic development, misrules by successive governments etc are nothing but the outcome of corruption.

As per the Gender Gap Report published on July 13, 2022 by World Economic Forum,  India ranks 135 among 145 countries. 11 countries below India includes Afghanistan, Pakistan, Chad, Iran, Congo etc. This shows how pitiful is the safety of our women in our country.

Other serious issue is widespread illiteracy in our country. This helps politicians, irrespective of parties to befool the people in large numbers. This is because of the illiteracy of our people. Writing one's own name is something that literacy standard prescribed. This should be reset to the level of graduation so that the people may understand what is democracy, politics, corruption and such so many matters.

Who can create awareness among people to achieve this state? We cannot expect another Mahatma Gandhi for this. There is also not a leader, at present acceptable all over the country who can take this challenge.  However, there is a widely acceptable leadership we have who can reach every category of people at every inch of our country. And that is our news media. Our print and visual media should immediately come forward to take up this challenge. Most popular few amongst them may come together and  drive the country to a safe, peaceful and prosperous destination. When they start raising their voice against corruption, they may also be tempted with money, but must overcome it.

Alas, most of our media group have become mere commercial establishments and that makes them fall at the feet of politicians who are threatening them with dire consequences. And it is also a fact certain governments suppress the media for their advantages. However, the media must understand the fact despite all said and done that the media is the one institution that our people trust today. Help the people with honest and complete reports to maintain that trust.
