BUYING LAND IN MARS AND MOON
Many people from different countries have so far bought land in Mars and Moon. Good number of Indians too have made such land purchases over the years. In 2020 a man from Ajmer, Rajasthan gifted 3 acres land in moon to his wife on their eighth wedding anniversary. Ever since late Sushant Singh Rajput, Shah Rukh Khan and other celebrities have bought good extend of land in moon, many people purchased smaller pieces from them. Sea of Tranquility is the most sought after region in the moon. The existing price per acre is US $37.50 (₹2775/-) which may be varied on either side depending upon other agencies.
A Software Engineer employed in an engineering firm in NOIDA was awarded with one acre land in Moon by his employer in recognition of his hard work. There seem to be more Indians who have purchased land in other planets. However, anyone venture into making any deals in extraterrestrial real estate should know that any such claims of ownership of land anywhere beyond earth is not recognised by any authority and, therefore, have no legal standing. Martin Juergens from Germany claims that the Moon has belonged to his family since 15 July 1756 when the Prussian King Frederick the Great presented to his ancestor, Aul Juergens, as a symbolic gesture of gratitude for service rendered and decreed that it should pass to the youngest born son. A Deen Lindsay made claims for all extraterrestrial objects on June 15, 1936 and sent a letter to Pittsburg Notary Public alongwith a deed and money for establishment of the property. There are many others who have made authentic claims, in their own language, about ownership of Moon and other planets. The United Nations sponsored 1967 Outer Space Treaty established all of outer space as an international commons by describing it as the "province of all mankind" and forbidding all the nations from claiming territorial sovereignty.
Contrary to all Treaties and other agreement between nations there are many individuals and organisations keep selling land in extraterrestrial bodies. According to an article published in USA Today by Miriam Fauzia on August 24, 2021, a man named Dennis Hope has been selling land on the moon for the past 35 years.
