Jim Corbett (1875-1955) a British, born in Nainital, Uttarakhand, was a renowned hunter, tracker and naturalist. During the pre-independence era man eaters spread terror in the Kumaon region of today's Uttarakhand. Hundreds of men, women and children were killed by Tigers and Leopards of this large forest area. At this time
came there this great human being. He had followed each one of them during day and night through this dangerous forest and eliminated them and saved the large settlements close to the jungle. Hunting of each of these wild breast are well narrated in his books. The suspense created in his natural writing will persuade the reader to finish the book in one sitting. 'Man eaters of Kumaon', 'Man against Man eaters', 'The Rudraprayag Leopard', 'Jungle Lore' etc are some of the books authored by Corbett.

One of the largest tiger reserves in India spread across Nainital, Ramnagar, Kalagarh and Dhikkala is named as Corbett National Park by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

(This writer is fortunate to have travelled extensively through the hunting area of Jim Corbett. Also could visit the house where he lived in Kaladhungi. Grave of his pet dog Robin  can be found by the side of the house which the master used to place flowers every day. This trusted friend accompanied Corbett in his tracking journeys.)
