MEDIA TODAY

Media have two ways to get to the people. One is, reach the people where they are. The other is bring the people where the media is. In the earlier times the former method was preferred but now it is the latter. So long as public activities are there news is part of it. Earlier style of reporting was that the actual situation was made known to the people but now the media decides whether the subject action is to be cut down to size or to flare up. Years ago, a political leader while addressing a meeting vomited on the stage. The style of reporting was: his own party said, the leader after extensive travel and attending a good number of meating could not have timely food and that made the poor soul to vomit. The opposition party mouth piece said that the leader had attended many liquor parties and that prompted the vomiting. However, no one could just report the fact that the person during speaking vomited on the stage. Media has a tendency while reporting a particular incident, conduct extensive research and analysis to find the cause of it. Here becomes the reporting biased. While both groups stretch the matter to their needs none could end up in mere fact.

In many instances, whether print media or visual media do not focus on issues that are extremely important for the entire society but prefer to highlight those matters which are attractive for a section of people. There are burning issues in our society like drugs abuse, suicides by people over economic, political and social reasons, widespread attacks on women, rampant thefts all over the state, to find new avenues for enhancement of state revenue, unemployment of youth, infrastructure development of the state, find ways for multiple earning from the tourism front and many such priority matters which can redefine the economy and status of the state.

Make the state clean in the level of developed nations. Let our state be peaceful. Get rid off all the destructive shows at public places. Resolve all disputes with the help of the judiciary. Bring up the pci/ppp rates of the state to the level of developed nations. These are all the issues the media should include in their day to day discussions and reports. These things can only provide prosperity for the people, not the political street fights.
