TOP CAR MANUFACTURING COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD
After having constant growth for a decade world automobile industry had a fall in 2019. Production came down by about 5%. During 2019 total production was about 92 million vehicles worldwide, including 67 million cars and 25 million commercial vehicles. Top car producing countries in the world are: 1. China, 2. USA, 3. Japan, 4. Germany, 5. India and
6. Mexico.
January - September 2020, car production came down further by 22.9% comparing with the same period in the previous year.
1. China
26 million motor vehicles were produced in China during 2019. About 83% of China's production were personal passenger cars and the other 4.3 million were for commercial use. SAIC Motor Corporation Ltd with 6.2 million vehicles in 2019, is the largest manufacturer of automobiles in China.
2. USA
US production was 11 million cars in 2019 with a world share of 12%. However US has produced more heavy vehicles than other countries. General Motors Company manufactured most of the vehicles sold in US with a market share of 17.4%. Ford Motors held 14.5% and Toyota 13.9% in the automobile sector in US. In 2019, 2.1 million electric cars were made in USA.
3. Japan
Japan could produce 9.7 million vehicles in 2019 which is 10.5% of the total global production. Japan manufactured 8.3 million cars and 1.4 million commercial vehicles. In 2019 they have exported 4.82 million vehicles. During the first three quarters of 2020 Japanese auto production went down by 22.8%.
4. Germany
During the first 8 months of 2020 Germany has manufactured about 2 million passenger cars. In 2019 they had a total production of 4.7 million cars. Volkswagen, BMW and Daimler hold the major share of the production.
5. India
India made 4.5 million vehicles in 2019 with a decline of 12.2% from the previous year. During the first three quarters of 2020 the total production was about 2.16 million vehicles. This is in comparison with 3.5 million in 2019 during the same period which resulted in a fall of 38.4%. As a matter of fact Indian vehicles are not popular in Europe and America. Indian manufacturing is primarily concentrated on its own population of 1.3 billion.
6. Mexico
Mexico manufactured 1.38 million passenger cars and 2.6 million commercial vehicles in 2019. Comparing with 2018 there was a decline of 2.8%. During the first three quarters of 2020 Mexico has manufactured approximately 2.2 million vehicles with a fall of 29.4% than the previous year. Mexico is trying hard to retain its 6th spot vying with South Korea.
