ARE WE MAKING A GARBAGE DUMP HERE IN OUR COUNTRY

According to World Population Review for 2024 Denmark ranked the cleanest country in the world. Other top countries in cleanness are UK, Finland, Sweden, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Malta, Slovenia and Iceland.

As per the list of most unclean countries (that is, in the reverse order) of 2021, among 195 countries the most unclean country (s.no.195) is Bangladesh and the second most unclean country (s.no.194) is India. Every Indian should be shameful to see this pathetic position of our country. We have state and central governments with many departments to keep our country (as entrusted to each department) clean. As per budget allocation for 2022-23 there was Rs 5,000 crores for Swatch Bharat Abhiyan and the revised estimate for 2023-24 is Rs 7,192 crores. Huge number of people, equipments and vehicles are deployed. The household cleaning market in India was worth $7,537 million in 2022. This is sharply rising according to reports.

Though we can say cleaning in India is better than yesterday, in the world level, as we have seen above, we are far behind the world. For instance, a couple of days ago what was happened in the Mattancherry beach, in Kochi, Kerala is a glaring example. A group of Russian tourists visited the beach were forced to collect and pack in bags large numbers of waste heaps spread all around the beach area. They were even constrained to carry it on the head outside the beach area. Both men and women tourists from Russia jointly worked to clean Kerala beach.

We have Panchayats, Municipalities, Corporations, State and Central Governments collecting money from the people for cleaning purpose. However it seems that we don't have any effective system to follow up and ensure whether the money is utilised for the required purpose.

My dear fellow beings and my honorable governments may please ensure that our country is made one of the cleanest in the world.
