MANIPUR TURMOIL AND THE DORMANT CHRISTIAN PRIESTHOOD
According to various reports, over 100 people have been died, over 300 have been injured and over 40,000 have lost their houses in the ongoing violence in Manipur until now. It is a matter deeply deplorable that it is an after effect of communal violance. It is most unfortunate to see that when other countries are trying to unite their people for the economic and social development of their countries, we Indians find pleasure in killing each other in the name of God.
While it is reported that most victims belong to Christian community, no senior priesthood from any sects of Christians, to the best of my knowledge have so far visited the affected region and consoled the people. Since a good number of Catholic population are reported to be among the victims, despite expectations, no any senior priesthood from the Catholic community too visited the affected region. It is requested, therefore, that a group of Bishops and above may visit the place as early as possible. They may discuss with all concerned including those seriously affected in the violence. They may console the people and offer their protection and love to them. Try to give them as much as monetory and other help to the best possible. After an extensive field study, they may meet the Prime Minister and suggest ways and means to get over the ongoing violence and killings in Manipur. And also you may suggest ways to prevent such incidents in future. Please consider this proposal on top most priority. All sects of Christian priesthood may unite in this effort to jointly visit the affected region and to bring peace in Manipur for ever.
