EARNING FROM TOURISM - KERALA Vs WESTERN COUNTRIES

Sometimes back someone said about Kerala - God's own country. We Malayalees just repeat it. Even our own country men from other states do not know much about it. Domestic tourist arrival in Kerala during 2018 was 1.6 cr. During the same period domestic tourists visited Tamil Nadu was 49.5 cr and UP 53.6 cr. We may have umpteen reasons to justify the low inflow.

The highest earning countries from tourism in 2019 are:
USA -$193.3 billion(Rs14.4 lakh cr)
Spain - $79.7 bn (Rs 5.9 lakh cr)
France - $63.5 bn (Rs 4.8 lakh cr)
Kerala - Rs 45,010.69 cr

Significant difference in the above figures reveals our failure in marketing our tourism potential to the world. When we are placed in the must visit tourist destination in  the world (8th in the list), we could not make it known to the world.

We ourselves should have a relook to our tourism sector. We have almost every ingredient a tourist want to see. We have good number of beaches here,  but those are not the best in the world. We have good forests with wild animals here, but those are not the best in the world. What beauties we have in Kerala individually can be found in different parts of the world. But, there are something which are unique. Those cannot be found anywhere in the world. The people of Kerala, the art and culture of this part of the world, the wide varieties of food available here are unique, cannot be found anywhere in the world. When we add these to the fascinating natural beauties bestowed on this land make this the God's own country.

We can make this as the educational hub. Our Ayurveda can be  popularised all over the world. Our temple festivals, different types of dance based art forms, our magics, black magic, mazhinottam, astrology, numerology, palmistry etc can be included as ingredients of tourism.

Above all we must keep this state clean in all respects. Dumping waste haphazardly should be avoided. Writings and pasting posters on walls should be stopped forth with. Erecting flagposts all around the road should also be stopped. Strike and other things that stop the movement of vehicles, closing of shops and such things will discourage the tourists to come to our place. Slash the alcohol prices. Behave well with our guests. These are all essential to promote tourism in our state.
