MANY PROBLEMS - ONE SOLUTION

Image
Unemployed people in India may be around 12 crores. Regarding underemployment, since no accurate figures could be gathered, this too coul be estimated around 6 to 8 crores. Over and above these, about 65 lakh graduates including 15 lakhs engineers, are passed out every year in different parts of the country. This is the problem, the only problem, our country face now. In order to get over this, I would like to suggest the following for the consideration of all central and state ministers of the country. Henceforth you all may stop attending all political and religious meetings. In place of these non-productive meetings, you may conduct meetings, seminars, conferences etc to find ways and means to resolve unemployment in our country. If you could find answer to this one problem it will answer to all our problems. K V George

WALKING BAREFOOT HAVE GOOD LOT OF GAINS

We may find that people lived in sometime in 1960/1950 and before had comparatively less ill health than people who lived later. There may be something to compare with the people of today. They were eating natural food items grown and cooked by themselves. Today we eat a good amount of contaminated packed food. The vegetables and fruits of those days were very clean, but what we get today is with high quantity of dangerous insecticides used fruits and vegetables. A very harmful quantity of destructive chemicals are used by us from food alone. Fish, chicken, egg etc are also said to be harmful to health. Over and above all these there are polluted air and water to damage our health. May be due to lack of intimacy with our mother earth we are not able to push out the negative energy in us. And this must be the answer to the better health conditions of the people of the pre sixty period.  The significant difference between the people of the pre 1960 period and those of tod...

NANGELI AND THE BREAST TAX IN KERALA

Image
Image courtesy to Amazon.in Breast tax (Mulakkaram) must be the most abnormal tax levied anywhere in the world. It was introduced by the erstwhile state of Travancore under the British rule in India. This tax was imposed on the women of lower caste, Nadars and Ezhavas between the age of 16 and 35. They were not allowed to cover their breasts and if anyone do otherwise were punished by heavy taxes. There was Channar revolt between 1839 and 1859 that prompted earlier against this tax seeking right for their women to cover their body at will but it went on for long until  it was withdrawn in 1924. The most remembered person in breast tax revolt was Nangeli who lived in Cherthala in the princely state of Travancore during the early 19th century. She was said to have cut off her breasts in protest against the breast tax. However the story of Nangeli was never reflected in historical books of Kerala and therefore, remained in the minds of the people like a ficti...
