HUMAN MIND
Human mind is the one which could not be fathomed out so far. About one billion neurones are consisted in a human brain. Every neuron has around 1,000 connections to other neurones with a total of over a trillion connections. These combined neurones can store many memories each. It is estimated that a human brain has storage capacity of one million gigabytes. If this is compared with a digital video recorder, the TV will run non stop for more than 300 years. While this is the capacity of the human brain, there is no uniform scientific opinion about the average utilisation of the brain capacity. Some reports suggest that an average human used about 10% of its capacity only but this is opposed by many. Comparing to all other species of life forms in this world human brains are more highly evolved. Brain uses about 20% of the oxygen intake of our body. Brain size accounts for between 9 and 16 percent overall variability of intelligence.
Regular excercise, meditation, healthy diet, writing, listen music, good sleep, laughing etc are suggested for improving brain capacity.
Bottlenose dolphins have bigger brains than humans (1600 grams versus 1300 grams) but they have a brain to body weight ratio lower than humans. A finding reveals that leeches have 32 brains. Spider brain is so large relative to the rest of the body and it extends up to its legs.
The application of energy generally determines the four elements. Physical energy - health.
Emotional energy - happiness
Mental energy - concentration
Spiritual energy - purpose of doing
Hypnotism is a medically recognised technique that uses innate mental powers to promote mental and physical improvements. Hypnotherapy is used by doctors, nurses, psychotherapists etc. With self hypnosis one can increase the mental power without anyone's help.
The power of mind is believed to be immense. According to some Bulgarian scientists the human race may have direct contact with aliens in a decade or two through the power of thought. An Australian health care company has introduced a thought powered prosthetic arm, which works based on the impulses from the wearer's brain. Scientists of the University of Zaragoza, Spain, have unveiled a wheelchair that can be steered by the power of thought. Researchers from the University of Southampton have used brain computer interfacing to capture brain signals and translate them into commands that allow humans to control devices. "When thought is brought to a focal center by the use of the will, it acquired a thousand fold the force it manifests under ordinary circumstances" writes C. Alexander in Real Inner Secrets of Psychology.
According to the ancient Indian teachings and as per Bhagavad Gita, a person is compared to chariot that is pulled in different directions by the horses yoked to it, with the horses representing the senses. The mind is the driver who holds the reins, but next to the mind sits the master of the chariot, the true observer, the self, who represents a universal unity. Without this self no coherent behaviour is possible. In the Taittiriya Upanishad 2.7, an individual is represented in terms of five different sheaths or levels that enclose the individual's self
These are, The physical body, Energy sheath, Mental sheath, Intellect sheath and Bliss sheath. These sheaths are defined at increasingly finer levels and at the highest level is the self. However, this subject itself warrant a detailed study.
To sum up, we must admit the fact that the mind is a gigantic power house. We do not know much about our mind. It is faster than light. It can drag something without any magnetic force. It can see without any object in the vicinity. It can listen without sound waves. It can burn things. Our mind can make other sick and also heal the sick.
