IDLE YOUTH OF KERALA

Kerala is on top of all states in India in literacy with 91.98% according to census of 2011. The state also has one of the best communication net work in the country. It also has one of the best transport grid of road, rail, inland water, sea and air. Large number of educated and skilled youth is also an asset for the state. Despite all these favourable elements the successive state governments do nothing to enhance the productivity of the state appreciably and thereby increase per capita income of the people which is comparatively lower to those states which are much below in resources. Kerala state is almost wholly depending on the revenue from the non residents employed abroad. Other major income of the state is from taxes, that too a considerable chunk from the sale of liquor to it's own people, central fund, a meagre sum from tourism and other service sectors.

For one reason or the other the state prefers to stand behind in manufacturing industry despite having vast resources to tap from. No any commendable step is taken by the state to expand the tourism net work and raise the income multifold despite the nature's abundant blessings. With proper efforts the state can make huge earnings from exports too. However, in spite off all such positive factors, the successive governments prefer to use the youth on political front to enhance their respective parties' strength. Surprisingly, rather sympathetically, the youth of the state too is not using any pressure tactics on these governments. The result is that our economy is depending heavily upon the internal policies of some of the gulf countries, US, UK etc. Even a visa restrictions in some of these countries can shake our economy.

We must at least teach our children about these dangerous situation and prepare them to concentrate on our own state and our own people. Let the people from abroad come to us with money as and when we ask for. We can do it. 'God's own country' is not something to write on the flex boards. Convert it into a saleable commodity! Take away our youth from strikes, hartals, rallies, poster writings etc. If the successive governments do not act voluntarily the youth must make them act.
