WASTE MANAGEMENT IN INDIA

Image
A Chinese Power House using combustible waste. With  66.1% recycling, Germany is the best recycling country in the world. Austria is close by with Germany in waste management. These two countries are followed by Taiwan, Sweden and South Korea in the list of best waste managers in the world. In 2003 Kamikatsu municipality of Japan made history by producing zero waste. While these are the names of the toppers, annoyingly, our country is among bottom 12 of the list in best waste managers in the world. The amount of municipal solid waste generated in India in 2021 was 1,60,000 metric tons. Considerable amount these waste are combustible and can be used for electricity generation. For instance, China is producing 2.7 million tonnes of waste per year. They generate 2.7 billion kilowatt hours.of electricity every year. Waste from paper, plastic, glass, wood, metal, electronics, battery, cloth and such many items are recycled and brought into new products.  If we Indians u...

CAN AN AGREEMENT BE VALID FOR 999 YEARS AS PER INDIAN LAW? CAN A CONCRETE DAM LIVE UPTO 999 YEARS?

Image
A lease indenture signed between the Maharaja of Travencore and the secretary of state for India in 1886 with a validity for 999 years, is what caused the  current tussle between Kerala and Tamil Nadu for irrigation  water from Mullaperiyar dam. 999 years is something over 30 human generations. Under any law anywhere in the world, can anyone ask anyone after ten, twenty or thirty generations what to give to whom and from where and how much? Did the signatories know that no such concrete dam in the world will survive for such long time of 999 years. From what is seen in this world a concrete dam cannot survive over 100 plus years. More amuzing and confusing is that why no one has brought this to the notice of the honorable judiciary. More than these the geographical and population combination have distinctively changed since the signing of this 'comedy of errors'. K V George

OUR BURDENS ARE BOUGHT BY US

Image
We  Indians are like a large family with plenty of land with enough water and favorable climatic conditions. But, instead of working in the field, produce and sell in the market we run behind the elder ones, listening their economic theories, political history and the divine discourse. We are so humble, liberal and such open minded that we build houses for god's even though we don't have houses. We feed the gods and pujaris though we have nothing to eat. We have no hesitation to follow the economic theories which are found flopped the world over where these were experimented. We have also made trial runs in a few states and found total collapse. We prefer to stop things than running them continuously. Instead of keeping the shutters open for more time we do our best to close those as much as possible. We are taught to shut than open. We prefer to see empty roads than the hustled and active ones. We are taught to remain idle and talk more than to keep working and tal...

WHY PEOPLE OF KERALA TAKE A 'DON'T CARE' ATTITUDE TOWARDS CORRUPTION?

Image
There  are many instances of allegations of corruption against government officials, ministers, political functionaries etc in Kerala through news media time and again. In response to this the people as a whole do not react considering that their hard earned money is being swindled by antisocial elements. 'Don't mind, let them have it', seems to be the general attitude of the people. The general earnings of the state through government for 2023-24 is: Public debt - 36.9% of GSDP Budget balance -(-Rs 39,662 Cr) Revenue - Rs 1.36 lakhs Crs Expense - Rs 2.76 lakhs Crs Then comes agriculture. Nearly half of the population is engaged in some sort of agricultural activities. Marine products trading and exports is another significant field of earing. About 65% of the income of the state comes from different sectors like IT, real estate, tourism, insurance, banking, transportation etc Over and above these about 1.5 lakhs crores rupees are brought in to the state every y...

Emily Grace was three years old. One night she had severe trouble for breathing. The mother of the little girl took her to the ER doctor suspecting pneumonia. The doctor found something abnormal and she was kept in the emergency room. Soon it was found that the girl at high risk stage four of cancer. She was in the hospital for 78 days. She had a chest tube for long and kept getting infections. The condition of the little patient was worsened every day. The mother by her side continued to pray. The mother's friend visited them. Having seen the condition of her daughter, the friend advised her to pray. Only God can help her, she was told. She prayed. Prayed and prayed. Prayed for long from her heart.  Now you may listen to the mother: "My daughter is now a thriving 11 years old. I call her my "miracle kid", because that is what she is. This is something about prayer. If you pray wholly surrendered and with total faith your prayer will certainly be answered...

MAN ESCAPED DEATH 634 TIMES!

Image
(A rare picture of Fidel Castro with Indira Gandhi in 1976 - image by AFP) Can  anyone believe that a man escaped from death 634 times in life? More surprise will be there when you come to know the name of that remarkably fortunate person! The name is known to all of you! It's none other than Fidel Castro, the former Cuban President! This Cuban leader had the distinction of being the only person survived most number of assassination attempts by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Six hundred thirty four, according to a book written by Fabian Escalante, former head of the Cuban secret service, also in charge of Castro's security. Here are some of the failed attempts. Castro's love for cigars was well known. CIA apparently poisoned a box of his favourite cigars with a botulinum toxin strong enough to kill anybody who put one in their mouth. The cigars were delivered to "an unidentified person." This was in 1960-61 just after he siezed power. The cigar...

CAN KERALA AFFORD STOP TRAFFIC AND CLOSE SHOPS?

Image
It is high time that the government of Kerala to take a firm decision whether they want to find means to raise the revenue or to continue with availing loans trom all sources. If they are intending for more revenue the first available source to consider is tourism. All avenues are now open to raise the income from tourism by over five times of the record earnings of the state. In order to achieve this we need not spend huge sum but should maintain certain basic discipline within our state. No tourist will come here at the risk of their lives. We cannot expect them to stay on public roads. We cannot force them to remain hungry. Irrespective of political considerations, any government ruling the state should ensure, therefore, that: a) Under no circumstances traffic on roads should be suspended. b) Throwing stones or causing any damages to vehicles may be strictly prohibited. c) No shops or offices should  forcefully be closed.  All offenders may be ensured to be pun...

BRIBERY - STOP TALKING ABOUT; TRY TO ACT FAST

Image
India has become notorious for the corruption activities in our government offices. There are middle men in corruption transactions. They use to say, if money is available, nothing is impossible in our government offices. Bribe  deals are so widespread in our government offices. No result oriented preventive steps are being taken by the people or by the government. It's really a pathetic situation. We cannot afford to continue like this. We must do something on red hot priority. Can we enact the following? 1. Stringent punishment should be ensured. If a government employee is found accepting bribe, such one should be dismissed from service forth with irrespective of the amount received. Further to this year 10 times of the amount involved should be taken from the culprit as fine. The culprits should also put behind bars for a minimum period of ten years. 2. The subject 'bribery' should be treated as a social vice and included in the school syllabus from Class 4 ...

ARE HUMANS DUTY BOUND IN THIS WORLD?

Image
(Image courtesy - Pinterest) Man is not at all duty bound in this world. The reason is simple, there is no duty prescribed for man by anyone above man. All the so called 'dos and the not dos' are prescribed by fellow beings within the purview of different norms, which might be conflicting with one another.  All good and bad are defined by both good and bad men. In fact where we have come from or where we have to go back is unknown to us.  We are not ours. We do not know much about our physical body. We cannot see it well. We do not know much about its functions. If it goes out we cannot rectify it; need someone's help. Above that, we know almost nothing about the central control system we have. Even the best could not use one third of it. It gets interference from, may be, out side the system. When we know almost nothing about ourselves, we pretend to act as if we know much about others and other things. And we like to rule all those. Sheer ignorance, but unrealised...

LARGE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN AYURVEDIC MEDICINE

Image
As per various media reports the MRP of Allopathic medicines are much above the cost of production. It is reported that generally the difference goes over a huge percentage. This wide difference must be shared by wholesalers at different stages and upto the final seller, the local medical shop. Most of these medicines are manufactured in different countries. 28% of medicines are manufactured in USA, 13% in China and the remaining 59% is by different countries including India.  Here comes the question. Can some of these medicines be manufactured in Ayurvedic combinations? India is rich in Ayurvedic herbal plants. With little research and a wider cooperation Ayurvedic medicine can be produced in the forms of tablets, capsules etc. And once we focus on the costly international medicines that are mostly unaffordable to common man in India Ayurvedic medicine shall have a wider acceptability. When the price is low and the result is superior it will have an appreciable demand....

SEX EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

Image
A few years ago an interview with a foreign lady had appeared in a Malayalam publication. She came to Kottayam by a KSRTC bus. She walked from the bus stand to the central junction. During this short walk, she said that twelve times people had laid their hands on her. It may not be a uncommon thing for the women folk of God's own country. In another instance, a city bus conductor of Ernakulam, during noon time when there were less passengers in the bus, conciously laid hands on the body of a school girl (I think that the man was later arrested by the police.) In another heinous act a 76 years old women was picked from the way side somewhere from north of Trissur, and according to the media reports she was  raped by a young man and thrown to the road side and some passerby had later rescued her. Recently there was a media report about a fifty plus man sentenced to imprisonment for raping a minor girl. Such things goes on and on in the God's own country. These things ...

WHY CHINA TURNED INTO CAPITALISM AND COMMUNISM FLOPPED IN THE WORLD

Image
Lenin, Stalin and Mao: The three biggest Communist mass murderers. Based on house hold survey the poverty rate in China reached to 63% of the population in 1981. This was declined to 10% in 2004. This indicates that about 500 million people have climbed out of poverty during this period. Ownership by the state and centrally planned economy had earlier brought them to this utmost poverty status. Privatisation began to accelerate after 1992 and the private grew as percentage of the GDP. In fact it was not a sudden turn around but a post Mao transition from 1976. Now China has reached at the No 2 position in GDP after US. GDP per capita income is expected to reach USD 12,081 by the end of 2023. At present China is known to be ranking 71 in the list of world countries in GDP per capita income. We must remember the vast tide of oppression, tyranny and mass murder that communist regimes unleashed upon the world. Historians and others have accounted numerous atrocities by Communis...
