CAN WE RESTRUCTURE KSRTC ?



Before treating a patient the doctor should have proper diagnosis. Now if we ask anyone about KSRTC, they may only say that it is not doing well. But what is the problem, the answer would be  simple. The Corporation do not have adequate fund to run the show. Is that the disease to prescribe the medicine?

The prime symptoms noted are given here. While the private buses in Kerala have an average of below three employees per bus the state corporation has over six employees per bus. This excess staff strength should be brought down considerably. The surplus employees may be transferred to other departments. Similarly the mileage given per bus is an average of little above 3.5 km/litre in KSRTC whereas this is above this level in private buses. Find out the reasons for the low mileage in KSRTC and try to rectify the same. These two segments should be considered on priority.

Further to this try to prevent most effectively all corruptive practices within the Corporation at all levels. Suspend purchase of new buses for sometime. Suspend Trade Unions activities in the entire Corporation for an indefinite period. However, the activists may continue to be the employees of the Corporation and work in their respective trade. Keep a watch of every individual service. Services which are continuously running in loss may be stopped and operated in new routes. All idle buses may be put into existing or new routes. Luxury buses may be tried in inter state routes. Try for optimum services per day. Keep the buses always as much clean as possible.

Bus station to bus station courier services can be tried.  The existing KSRTC may be brought under three independent Regional Managements. 1) Thiruvananthapuram with Kollam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta. 2) Ernakulam with Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad. 3) Kozhikode with Kannur, Kaseragod, Wayanad and Malappuram. Special bonus should be given to the employeconcernedes of the profit making regions.

It is suggested to all  to implement these suggestions strictly with no loop holes. The Corporation shall not have any financial bindings to take up these suggestions. With all best wishes for the Rejuvenation of KSRTC!
