PLASTIC RAIN WATER TANKS

Image
Governments and environmentalists are strongly arguing for the eradication of plastic. People too support this as plastic is harmful for human life as for other life forms. Plastic is not biodegradable. It breaks into pieces and cause to produce toxic chemicals. It has adverse impact on the bio system. Huge quantity of plastic waste accumulated in many parts of the sea threaten the under water life. In fact there is no way for a total annihilation of plastic from the earth. Let us now think about recycling of plastic waste into productive and harmless purpose. All waste plastic may be recycled into interlocking plastic bricks of standard measure. These bricks may be fixed on the cemented floor over a fairly good area to form a rain harvesting tank. In many parts of our country serious water scarcity is felt. Whatever the rain water received can be stored in these tanks. Such tanks can be constructed at unused public and private land.  This arrangement can certainly give som

RESIDENTS ASSOCIATIONS

Image
We  have a good number of Residents Associations in the state. Most of these are offering exemplary service to their residents. If they can expand their area of activities, the concerned residents can have high quality food articles. Most of the vegetables and fruits brought from neighbouring states are highly contaminated with pesticides in dangerous level. If the Residents Associations themselves can directly bring these from the cultivators under prearranged terms to replace the existing chemicals with herbal pesticides, their members can have good quality fruits and vegetables. Similarly they can also think about manufacturing curry powders and other food articles. Most of these things coming to our kitchens are highly adulterated. For some peculiar reasons, most of these adulteration cases are not reported. Also they can add fish, meat, egg etc to the list as these two are dangerously contaminated. The present individual Residents Associations can think about district

PUBLIC PROTEST, A WASTE EFFORT

Image
World  have seen some good number of public protests in the recent past. After the killing of George Floyd hundreds of thousands of people from all 50 states of USA taken to the streets against police brutality and institutional racism in May 2020 was one of the biggest public protests in America in the recent history. In January 2017, about half a million people marched on Washington DC in support of women's rights, with more than 600 marches planned in the US and 81 other countries on the same day is seen as the largest single day protest. Over one million people, mostly students, seeking democratic reforms, had peacefully occupied the Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China in January 2010 were unexpectedly rolled over by tanks killing more than one lakh people was another significant protest in the recent times. Berlin Wall protest in 1989, Iraq war protest in 2008, the Orange Revolution in Ukraine in 2004 etc are the mass protests in recent times. However, Indian independ

'CLEANLINESS EVERYWHERE'

Image
The  top five cleanest countries in the world are, 1. Iceland 2. Sweden 3. Switzerland 4. Norway 5. Mauritius. Out of 180 countries India at 177, Bangladesh, Burundi, DR of Congo and Nepal are at the bottom five of the list. Why we Indians are lagging behind in cleanliness? We have not included cleanliness in the school syllabus must be the right answer. India gives priority for tourism and a good number tourists from all over the world are coming here. We welcome them with "Atithi Devo Bhava". We give them what best we have. Is it enough? We must ask ourselves. Among the Indian states Kerala is on top in health and education but holds the last spot in cleanliness. Who are responsible for the unclean state of affairs? First, the home, followed by the school, the religious establishments, the social organisations and finally the government. The successive governments that ruled the state gave least priority for cleanliness. The government should provide adequate pr

RETURN TO LIFE AFTER DEATH

Image
(Continued from yesterday) As per Hinduism life is called Samsara which is a continuous cycle of life, death and rebirth. Most Hindus believe that every human after death takes rebirth in another body. However some Hindus believe that the Atman (soul) takes rebirth after staying in another realms. Christianity also believe that according to the density of sins held by one, takes rebirth as offsprings for three or four generations. There are good number of revelations about dead return to life. In many cases those come back to life after death narrated all that happened around the dead body during the hours of 'death'. American cardiologist Maurice S. Rawlings in his renowned book, Beyond Death's Door, narrated an incident. A young man involved in a road accident was brought to the hospital. Doctors examined and found him dead and the messages were sent to the available numbers. His sister and a few others came to the hospital. They had brought the body out and p

HUMAN MIND

Image
Human mind is the one which could not be fathomed out so far. About one billion neurones are consisted in a human brain. Every neuron has around 1,000 connections to other neurones with a total of over a trillion connections. These combined neurones can store many memories each. It is estimated that a human brain has storage capacity of one million gigabytes. If this is compared with a digital video recorder, the TV will run non stop for more than 300 years. While this is the capacity of the human brain, there is no uniform scientific opinion about the average utilisation of the brain capacity. Some reports suggest that an average human used about 10% of its capacity only but this is opposed by many. Comparing to all other species of life forms in this world human brains are more highly evolved.  Brain uses about 20% of the oxygen intake of our body. Brain size accounts for between 9 and 16 percent overall variability of intelligence.  Regular excercise, meditation, healthy

BLACK MAGIC IN KERALA

Image
Black  magic is very much prevalent in Kerala. Black magic is performed in  many traditional Hindu families of Kerala. Black Magic is believed to be performed with the indulgence of supernatural powers for selfish and evil purposes. Black Magic, Sorcery or Witchcraft is generally practiced by Tantrics by inflicting negative energy into a person's life. Different deities are used in Black Magic performance. Chatan seva is a type of Black Magic done to appease Kuttichathan. This is also known as Vishnumaya. One of the most renowned Vishnumaya Kuttichathan temple is located in Peringottukara Devasthanam in Thrissur, Kerala. The families of Avanangattil Kalari and Kanadi are the experts in Black Magic performance. Mainly Black Magic is performed by astrologers. An expert's comment on Black Magic is quoted here. "Black Magic is a form of energy; it is like electricity. Is electricity divine or evil? When it is used for lighting the house, it is divine. When it is us

MAN AND WATER

Image
Water  we use is mainly from well or water tank. The same water we get from these sources are used for different purposes like drinking, cleaning, toilets, irrigation of plants etc. Let us now imagine that water sprinkled on the plants tell water which is used in the toilet that it is doing superior function by keeping the plants alive, growing, flowering etc while the water used in the toilets and other cleaning area is inferior one with no productive outcome. Similarly, like water, our life or soul is coming from the Supreme One. The living organic system for all are coming from the earth. Just because these are used for different functions like water  one find itself superior and the other is made inferior. The so called status is nothing but the recognition for the role one play in the society. As the same water is differentiated by the utilities, man is also differentiated by the role he plays. Neither the water becomes superior nor inferior, the man being a teacher or

WHAT HAPPENS TO LIFE AFTER DEATH

Image
Life  can be briefly explained as the state of existence that is different from inorganic matters. Death is the permanent end of the organism of the life beings. All that exist today, according to scientific principles, never cease the existence but only transformation take place. It must be the same with human life too. Once the life depart from the living body all the cells in the body cease to function. Hereafter innumerable counts of new life forms come into existence and consume the body quite fast. According to Hinduism, after the death of a person the soul is reborn in another body and it continues. However some thoughts suggest that the soul may exist in other realms after death and enter heaven or hell for a period before the rebirth in terms with the good and bad they had committed during their lives in the world. It is also believed that according to the intentional action of each person, they may take rebirth in the form of animals and other life forms. "Ev

OUIJA BOARD

Image
Ouija board is also known as Spirit Board or Talking  Board. The previously existed talking board was modified by an attorney named Elijah Bond and he got it patented on Feb 10, 1891 as the present Ouija Board. The name Ouija was given by  William Fuld an employee of Elijah Bond when he started mass production of the board. There are two verses about the name. One is that Charles Kennard (founder of Kennard Novelty Company which manufactured Fuld's talking boards) claimed that he used ancient Egyptian word Ouija meaning 'good luck'. Another claim is that it came from a combination of French and German words for 'yes'. The board is marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers from 0 - 9 and the words 'yes', 'no', 'hello' and 'good bye' . A heart shaped planchette made of wood or plastic is placed on the board. The participants keep their fingers on the planchette which is moved over the board. The participants in t

OPEN LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF CHINA

Image
"If  war starts, India will have no chance of winning" is the threatening statement appeared in the editorial of Global Times on Saturday. Since this paper is the mouth piece of the Chinese administration, it can be seen as the threatening words of the Chinese government. The writer of this letter, like any other Indians, believe in peace and harmony among all nations in the world, especially with our neighbouring countries. It is unfortunate that the threat of war came from your government after our Defence Minister Mr Rajnath Singh had a lengthy discussion with your Defence Minister Wei Fenghe on Friday. Being a proud Indian I would like to ask your President Mr Xi Jinping as to what harm India has done against the people of China. To the best my knowledge not even one instance to spell out. We two are the most populous countries of the world. We are also fast growing economic powers. If we continue to co-operate with each other the people of both the countries

DRUGS - CRIME PROMOTER

Image
Most  of the crimes in the world are instigated by drugs. Crimes like murder, rape, violence against women etc are mostly committed by drug abusers. Use of drug directly and indirectly kill around 12 million people every year. Over 35 million people all over the world are suffering from drug disorders. An estimated number of over 270 million people are using drugs. Cocaine alone around 2,000 tonnes are sold in different countries in one year.  Next to petroleum and arms, drugs is the largest business in the world with an estimated annual turnover of 500 million dollars. Drug users in India is also growing every year. Drug abuse is directly involved in crime and violence. It is a complex phenomenon having social, cultural, historical, economical, biological and geographical impacts. Drugs remove inhibition and impair judgement and persuade one to commit offences. Apart from affecting the financial stability, addiction increases conflicts and causes untold emotion

LOOK AT HONG KONG

Image
Hong Kong  was a colony and independent territory of the British from 1841 to 1997. In between there was a brief occupation by the Japanese from 1941 to 1945. Prior to these Hong Kong was under Chinese rule during the Qin Dynasty in the 3rd century BC and remained with China for about 2000 years. Hong Kong returned to Chinese control after a century and a half of British rule. The transfer was meant to establish a "one country, two systems" relationship with China and Hong Kong that would last until 2047. The people of Hong Kong however accuse China for contradiction of the agreement and overstepping to their authority. As per the "one country, two systems" outlined by the Sino-British Joint Declaration, Hong Kong would continue operating in a capitalist economy and the people would continue to have rights to speech, press, assembly and religious belief among other things at least for fifty years. Soon after the formation of the new Hong Kong

EXCESSIVE FREEDOM IN INDIA

Image
Anything  that is beyond the limit, unrestricted or free for all become harmful for the society. August 15, 1947 is the Independence Day of India. When India became independent Indians became Carte Blanche. We Indians are free to destroy any number of vehicles on the road. Throw stones on any number of shops. Anyone can stop people going to work and stop students going to schools and colleges. The employees can tell the employers to shutdown the business. Doctors and nurses can keep away from patients admitted to hospitals and allow them to die without treatment. There are innumerable cases of police atrocities all over the country. Police, lawyers and teachers can act according to their convenience. These are all interpreted as individual liberty or professional liberty in the books of law according to these independent public servants. Shops can sell adulterated goods. Hotels can supply substandard food. Vegetables and fruits sellers can sell those added with destructive

SREE NARAYANA GURU

Image
Sree Narayana Guru  (20.8.1856 - 20.9.1928) is the synonym for the Supreme One. Every Indian must be proud of his holy birth in this country. "One Cast, One Religion, One God for all" is his most renowned teaching. He is a philosopher for some, a spiritual leader for many and social reformer for some others. Beyond all these, the Guru is an unmatched one for his humility. He must be the scholar of scholars with unfathomable knowledge of humanity in all forms. Unfortunately, his life and teachings could not reach the whole world; not even many parts of our own country. All about him and his great words should be included in the school syllabus of the entire country. This great soul should not be allowed to be confined to a section of people. He is such a tall one and must be reachable to every human beings of this world. Sree Narayana Guru is the last resort for all those who have nothing left in this world and for all those who think they have everything in this w
