DO THE CHINESE PEOPLE HAVE FREEDOM IN CHINA?
The simple answer to this question is a straight 'no'. While article 36 of the PRC constitution provides freedom of religion to citizens, what is the actual provisions can be seen from the following. In fact China is a country that restrict freedom to its people. The Chinese citizens living in China have learned to live under the restricted freedom in almost every aspect of day to day life. Sometimes back a female correspondent of a local daily reported a suspected case of corruption by a government official. She was subsequently reported to have arrested. Since then no one has seen or heard about her. And that is China.
Freedom of religion of ethenic minorities are well scribed in the constitution but the Uyghur population living in Xinjiang region are under strict controls of practising Islam as shown below.
* Official religious practices must be held in government approved mosques.
* Uyghurs under 18 years old are not allowed to enter mosques or pray in schools.
* The study of religious texts is permitted only in designated state schools.
* Government informers regularly attend religious gatherings in mosques.
* Women are not allowed to wear headscarves and veils and men are not allowed to have beards.
* The use of traditional Islamic names (like Abdul, Mohammed, Ahammed etc) are banned.
As on 2022 there were 1.9 billions Muslims in the world or about 25% of the world population. Further to this there are 50 Muslim majority countries in the world. Unfortunately no one has so far raised voice against the so called Communist China so far.
