JAINISM IN INDIA
Jainism is an ancient religion originated in India based on the teachings of Mahavira. It emphasis on non-violence and spiritual development of the individuals. Jainism is a transtheistic religion. It beleives that the universe was not created and will remain for ever. They also believe that the universe has no creator or destroyer. They have their significant doctrine that teaches that Jainism was there for ever and continue to be there for ever. Jainism has it's root in the Indus Valley Civilization and that too prior to the Indo Aryan Civilization. There was a ruling by the Supreme Court in August 2005 that Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism are distinct religions but are interconnected and interrelated with Hinduism, with these three are part of wider broader Hindu religion. In the 2006 verdict however, the Supreme Court found that Jainism is indisputably not a part of Hindu religion. The Government of India awarded the minority status to the Jain community of India on January 20, 2014. There are 9.5 million members Jainism have in India as per the census of 2011. They contribute 0.72% of the population of the country. The Jain population mostly belongs to business community. Most of them are found in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Delhi. Jainism can be found in all states of India and across the world. The state of Kerala has Jainism since long. Inscriptions of the medevial period are found in the borders of Kerala. There are 4,500 members Jainism have in Kerala as per the census of 2011. They are mostly found in Kochi, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
When some religious are trying to bring in more members to their respective religion Jainism is an exemption in this. They also do not allege that members from their community are taken away by other religions.
