EMPLOYMENT IN GOVERNMENT SECTOR IN KERALA

As per available information there are over 5 lakhs people employed in various government departments in Kerala. Of late media reports continuously about the hardships faced by the government in paying their salary and other benifits in time. While it is the dream of the people to secure employment in the government, political parties reported to have put their best efforts to induct their near and dear for these jobs. Now, the democratically elected government may consider the existing financial situation of the state and restructure the government employment system prevailing in the state in the following manner.

1. Introduce voluntary retirement scheme in the state. Try to bring down the staff by 10%, or more, by VRS.

2. Suspend fresh recruitment for a minimum period of three years. In the case of emergency requirements suitable staff may be got transferred from other departments.

3. Anyone found involved in corruptive practices may be dismissed forthwith.

4. In order to avoid external influence in staff recruitment, a five member commission may be appointed. It may be ensured that all the members are not connected with any political parties. Departments concerned may send their requirements to the commission who after getting convinced may finally forward it to the PSC.

Since the prevailing situation is likely to continue for long and becoming more and more unbearable for the government, it is expected, may heed to the above suggestions.
