WHY ATHEISTS ARE HAPPIER THAN BELIEVERS?

           (A street in Finland)

Those who do not believe in the existence of God are called atheists. The system that propagate the existence of God or gods is called religion. According to a study conducted by Pew Research Centre in 230 countries in 2012, it is estimated that 84% of the world population is affiliated to some religions and 16% are not affiliated to any such beliefs.

When we look at the happiest countries of the world (2021), Finland comes on top, that too, four years in a row. The other countries on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th positions respectively are Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland and Netherlands. We may also find the percentage of atheists in the total population of these countries; Finland 55%, Iceland 49%, Denmark 61%,  Switzerland 58% and Netherlands 66%.

Countries with high  crime rates in 2021 are: (crime rate is given in brackets). El Salvador (82.84) with 81% Christians, Jamaica (57) with 69% Christians, Honduras (41.7) with 76% Christians, Iran (49.38) with 99.6% Muslims, South Africa  (35.9) with 82% Christians, Indonesia (45.93) with 87% Muslims, Bangladesh (63.90) with 90.4% Muslims and India (44.43) with 79.8% Hindu.

What make people of a country happy are almost common for all countries. Those are like income, healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom, trust, generosity among the people and above all peace prevailing in that country. In the cases of different religions they all focus on life after death. Most of the religious teachings do not include happy life in this world. Further to all this, almost all religions are now function like corporate bodies or power centers. Instead of concentrating on the reformation of their respective followers they all now focus on money and power.

Happiness is nothing but the outcome of contentment  and the supreme state of happiness is peace. Our religious leaders may, therefore, leaving aside the difference of  opinion, if any,  and sit together and find ways and means to have peace in the society, let there be happiness among the religious communities too.
