JACOBITE ORTHODOX DISPUTE - IS IT A NEVER-ENDING ONE?

"Therefore, if you offer your gift at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there, before the altar, and go first to be reconciled to your brother, and then you may approach and offer your gift." (Mathew 5:23-24)

This is what Jesus Christ taught us to resolve the dispute with our brothers.

This Christian community split ino Jacobite and Orthodox in 1912. However they came together in Kottayam following a Supreme Court ruling for a brief period between 1958 and 1970. From 1970 they have been at war over church control. After a long trial the apex court gave its final verdict in 2017.

What I would like to say is not about the history or the real causes of the dispute between the two. I wish to remind all concerned that neither any of the church nor a single member of the church nor any form wealth available with the church belongs to anyone in this world. The sole owner of all these are Lord Jesus Christ. One should not fight for the possession of these with his own brotherhood. We Christians have proved by our lives that we cannot love others and forgive anyone. Let us leave everything to the Supreme One and live honest lives. Give others than trying to take from others.

I would like to suggest most humbly to all concerned to adopt any of the following to resolve the long pending disputes strictly in conformity with the final verdict of 2017 of the Apex Court.

1) Allow members of each church to cast their votes to find the custodian of their church.

2) May the Supremos of both groups, without the presence of anyone else, sit together, may be for days or weeks and talk each other and reach a solution. Jointly sign the brief declaration of the resolution and come out shaking hands with each other.

May the Divine Bliss be with all of you!

K V George
